Note that the file is in plain ASCII, with Unix line endings and uses the pipe symbol (|) as a field delimiter. You’ll need to know this when you import it into your database.
Over the course of this worksheet I’ll be asking you questions about MySQL commands. You can find documentation at http://dev.mysql.com. I encourage you to use this to answer the worksheet questions. You can also get some of your answers from PHPMyAdmin itself as we work through the exercise but this will help you get more familiar with the SQL language.
Evaluate Your Data
Open the sample data file in a spreadsheet program and examine the data. In the following table, list the names, description and data types for each field.

Before you import unformatted data into MySQL, you have to have a place to put it.
You can import data in three ways:
· Use a compatible table of an existing database
· Create a new table in an existing database either manually or by importing.
· Create a new database with a table that fits the incoming data.
Log into PHPMyAdmin.
Create a new database called dbtest. What SQL command would you use?
Since it’s not a good idea to use the MySQL administrator account root for everything, we’ll create a new MySQL user that will be managing this new database.
Create a new user with a user name consisting of your first initial followed by your last name. For example, Ellie Palka would create a user named epalka.
This will be a user for localhost only and has no access to any databases. The password will be the same as the username (we can change it later).
In other words, the full user name for Edith Palka would look like [email protected] with a password of epalka. (Remember to substitute your own first initial/last name for the user ID.)
What is your user name?
What was the SQL command you would use to create this user?
A user with an easily-guessed password is insecure but this is only for testing purposes and we can change the password later.
Now give the user you just created administrative access to the database dbtest. That is, they should have full control over the database dbtest and no others. What SQL command would do that?
Confirm that your user has full access to dbtest. How would you show this with an SQL command without logging in as that user?
Run that command, if you haven’t already. What was the output?
Log out and log back in as your new user to confirm that they can administer dbtest and nothing else. If this works, continue with th.

How to Communicate with Excel from Intouch SCADA
- 1. How to Communicate InTouch HMI SCADA with Excel ? The main purpose of SCADA in industries are, 1. For Data Acquisition 2. Graphical Control. 3. Easy to interpret with data while being controlling field instruments from the SCADA. There may be times when we have to store the data in the spreadsheet for later use or visualizing them instantly. So now we are going to implement how we can communicate Excel from InTouch SCADA. Data Communicate with Excel from InTouch HMI 2023 First of all, I am going to pull out a slider & tank from industrial graphics Library to make it graphically inclined.
- 3. I will choose the tag as I/O real. Which means this tag can act as input to this project or output from the project to another software.
- 4. After choosing I/O real we are going to give access name, click on ADD to add an access name. We have given “Communication”, this will be used for specifically this project, You can give any name to the Access text box. Notice that the node name has to be empty. The application name is excel since we are going to communicate with it. Select “DDE” in which protocol to use, The topic name should be the name of the excel file and the format of all excel files are .xlsx. Notice that we are going to use the DDE protocol to establish communication.
- 5. After adding the access name there will be a text box called “item”, we have specified in there which column and row the value has to be stored in the excel sheet. We put “R1C1” Then save the tag and exit. Now our created tag is ready to act as I/O tag. So before going to the run time you have to open the Excel and create a new file with the same topic name with proper extensions as given in the Add access name (we created as “Tank_Level.xlsx”) dialog box leaving out the format and save the file anywhere on same system. Now we are going to give Break cell to the tank and access the percent fill of the tank. I am going to give the same tag name here so whenever there is movement on the slider it’ll reflect on the fill percent of the tank.
- 6. Now we are going to runtime (upper right corner), before going to the runtime remember that the excel file which we saved is open already.
- 7. Notice that the value is accurately getting printed in the excel sheet since it was a real tag. Another side, you can check, if we enter 50 in R1C1 cell and hit enter, changes will be done on slider & tank level as well, If we enter 75 then it works same and shows result accordingly.
