Abstract:
In a microservice world, things become more complex. Platforms such as Kubernetes address a lot of the complexity; they handle resource isolation and utilization, networking, and deployments nicely. But a lot of the involved complexity such as load balancing, rollout scenarios, circuit breaking, retries, rate limiting, observability, tracing and transport security is still left up to the development teams.
Of course, you can address all of these challenges in your microservices programmatically using popular open-source components such as Hystrix, Ribbon, Eureka, the EFK Stack, Prometheus or Jaeger. But, unfortunately, this approach can quickly lead to excessive library bloat and suddenly your microservices are not quite so micro anymore.
All this might seem acceptable if you’re on a single, consistent development stack like Java EE or Spring Boot. But tackling these complexities becomes even more challenging if you’re dealing with multiple stacks and multiple frameworks, to say nothing about dealing with legacy applications that you can’t modify to retrofit these requirements.
In comes Istio to the rescue. It is a so-called service mesh that addresses many of the cross-cutting communication concerns in a microservice architecture. Think of Istio as AOP (aspect-oriented programming) for microservice communication. Instead of implementing everything directly within your services, Istio transparently injects and decorates the desired concerns into the individual communication channels.
Mario-Leander Reimer offers an overview of Istio and explains how it addresses the inherent complexities in microservice architectures. He briefly discusses the conceptual architecture and the main building blocks of Istio before diving into several examples deployed on a live Kubernetes cluster to demonstrate the different traffic management features, as well as diagnosability and security.

AWS IoT is a managed cloud platform that lets connected devices easily and securely interact with cloud applications and other devices. In this session, we will discuss how constrained devices can leverage AWS IoT to send data to the cloud and receive commands back to the device using the protocol of their choice. We will discuss how devices can connect securely using MQTT and HTTP protocols, and how developers and businesses can leverage the AWS IoT Rules Engine, Thing Shadows, and accelerate prototype development using AWS IoT Device SDKs. Qubes OS and TPM 2.0
The document discusses adding support for TPM 2.0 chips in Qubes OS. Currently, Qubes only supports TPM 1.2 chips and cannot detect TPM 2.0 chips. The Linux kernels used in Qubes (4.14 and 4.19) are missing some TPM 2.0 configuration options. Testing on real hardware with a TPM 2.0 chip showed the chip is detected but Qubes reports "Device not found". Integrating TPM 2.0 support would allow using newer TPM standard chips but may require changes to tools like Anti-Evil Maid that currently only support TPM 1.2.

We developed rte to enable programmers from around the world in low level firmware development without hassle of heavy KVM switch interface.
In result, we have a tool which makes easier work with firmware debugging tasks.
BITS and CHIPSEC as coreboot payloads
In this presentation, we would like to present how BITS and CHIPSEC can be utilized on top of coreboot enabled platform to verify the quality of underlying firmware.
Firmware security is mostly about validation and formal development processes. To achieve some level of confidence about firmware implementation quality various tools were developed, of which most notable are CHIPSEC and BITS.
BITS (BIOS Implementation Test Suite) consist of a GRUB2 bootloader extended with runtime Python support.
CHIPSEC is a Platform Security Assessment Framework which mostly focuses on platform configuration but can also be used for other purposes (e.g. verification of Spectre mitigation presence).
We would like to present what issues firmware developers may face and what we were able to achieve at this ground using BITS and CHIPSEC for validation of PC Engines apu2 and MinnowBoard Turbot platform. We want to present what modifications are required to integrated Python code along with CHIPSEC and BITS scripts. We also would like to demonstrate practical usage of mentioned frameworks by showing short demo.
How to enable AMD IOMMU in coreboot?
The idea for this talk born from fascination about the philosophy behind QubesOS, OpenXT and ViryaOS. The underlying technology for those OSes is Xen. Xen is a well-known project under the Linux Foundation umbrella, but what is most interesting in it from open source firmware perspective are high-end virtualization features
like:
* DMA protection
* PCI pass-through
* Interrupt remapping
* SR-IOV
* TPM and vTPM
* others
With automotive market hypervisors slowly move into embedded space, what means underlying firmware will have to expose right infrastructure to provide initial configuration and security.
Most features have to be configured and exposed in a well-defined way by firmware. IOMMU is the system component that some of the mentioned features rely on.
As maintainers of PC Engines apuX platforms, we decided to work on AMD IOMMU enabling to create right infrastructure for hypervisors and operating systems.
In this presentation we want to:
* explain features of AMD IOMMU
* present recommended methods of AMD IOMMU enabling
* demonstrate current status of our work
* discuss future user needs and implementation plans
Enabling TPM 2.0 on coreboot based devices
This talk was presented during European coreboot Conference 2017 in Bochum. In this talk we walk through procedures required for enabling TPM 2.0 using LPC interface. We implemented that support as part of our ongoing maintainances of PC Engines apu series (AMD G-series) platform.

The expansion of AI services necessitates enhanced computational capabilities on edge devices. Temporal Event Neural Networks (TENNs), developed by BrainChip, represent a novel and highly efficient state-space network. TENNs demonstrate exceptional proficiency in handling multi-dimensional streaming data, facilitating advancements in object detection, action recognition, speech enhancement and language model/sequence generation. Through the utilization of polynomial-based continuous convolutions, TENNs streamline models, expedite training processes and significantly diminish memory requirements, achieving notable reductions of up to 50x in parameters and 5,000x in energy consumption compared to prevailing methodologies like transformers.

Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.

The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. zkStudyClub - LatticeFold: A Lattice-based Folding Scheme and its Application...
Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.
