Social media has significantly changed how the Department of Human Resources operates in three key ways:
1) Social media has become the primary way for HR to post job openings, finding a much larger pool of applicants more easily and cheaply.
2) HR now uses social media for training employees virtually, saving time and resources compared to traditional in-person training.
3) While some see social media as distracting, others believe HR should monitor employees' social media to understand them better in today's highly social world.

How Social Media Has Transformed HR Recruiting and Training
1. How Social Media has changed The Department of Human
Resources
The department of Human Resources has changed drastically
over the course of the years due to the world around us
changing and the trends changing year by year. They are
responsible for the employees which includes recruitment,
training, interviewing and even payroll . Specifically, the HR
field has been forced to change because of vast growth in social
media. When it comes to reinforcing the brand of a company,
social media is becoming the go-to place for marketing teams
and human resource departments. (Jim Vassalo, 2015).
Technology developing social media makes the whole concept
of being social different by creating these platforms that are
more virtual. Times have changed rapidly, and social networks
have advanced more which is making things easier and harder
for the Department of Human Resources. In this paper we will
take a closer look into the effect social media has on the HR
field.
Human Resource officers or managers have an important
role and responsibility of recruiting and inducting employees
for their company. Before social media was available the
recruiting the process was a lot different it would be either word
of mouth or by invitation stating they are currently hiring. Now
the HR department uses social media to post job positions on
the sites that draw a wider range. “The posting of these jobs on
social media invites a much larger population of applicants and
it becomes much easier for the recruiters to find the suitable
candidates amongst the lot (Lesther Mairena, 2017). Studies
show that it saves money and it is a lot easier for HR to post
these jobs on these sites. It is also easier for candidates because
usually on these social sites they have an easy way to post your
resume and apply from the jobs, you can even do it on your
2. phone in most cases. Social media has had a positive effect on
the recruiting process for the HR department because overall it
has created a bigger pool of people to choose from.
Not only has social media effected the recruiting process,
it has also affected the way companies train their employees and
communicate with them, which HR is responsible for. Before
training was done in a classroom and with a training guide. Now
in modern time companies, more specifically the HR department
uses social media to train their employees. HR professionals use
live video from social media sites to train their employees
virtually. Which saves a lot of time and effort as far as
employers and employees having to leave there setting to train.
Also Social media is becoming so advanced that there are
programs that can be created to train new employees from home
instead them of having to come in the office. There are training
programs that companies will have employees do their first
couple of weeks. The live video also helps with the evaluation
process and when employers need to hold meetings discussing
the company.
Human resource managers are sometimes reserved about
social media and the use of it by employees. On one hand some
professionals can feel as though social media is a distraction
and can cause employees to slack off. On the other hand,
employers do sometimes get their employees social media to
monitor employee’s activity while on the job. Modern day
organizations emphasize that the employees share their social
media profiles with their managers by adding them in so that the
boss would know the activities of the subordinates (Lesther
Mairena 2017). This can be debatably a violation of privacy,
but everything is so open and social that the question, becomes
what is private anymore?
Social media is one of the biggest things growing in our
world right now. Connecting us with everybody. It has rapidly
3. changed the way businesses run their business. It has made it
simple in some ways and hard in some others. For the HR
department it has really helped them come up with ways to keep
up with their employees and the business. Social media overall
helps companies stay fresh and updated on new changes and
trends. It also allows more flexibility and freedom for
employers. Social media has made the focus more on getting the
actual job done then the day to day steps of the job. After doing
the research it appears social media has changed the focus to the
actual employee and their lives are being taken more into
consideration. Nothing is private everything is seen, and we are
in a more social world, so feelings and emotions are more
important, and they are being expressed more.
