The Highway of Tears in British Columbia has been the site of numerous disappearances and murders of women since 1969. Most of the victims have been Indigenous women who often relied on hitchhiking for transportation along the isolated highway. While some cases have been solved through the RCMP's Project E-PANA, the deaths of many women remain unsolved despite ongoing investigations. There is concern that racism may be a factor in the lack of attention and progress on solving these cases. Improving public transit along the highway could help address the underlying issue of hitchhiking safety.
The highway of tears is an 800-mile stretch of highway in British Columbia where a large number of women have gone missing or been murdered over several decades. The first disappearance was in 1969 and the last reported attack was in 2011, with victims numbering between 19-40. In 2005 the RCMP launched Project E-PANA to investigate the unsolved cases, solving 4 murders so far. Questions have been raised about corruption in the provincial government for potentially destroying records. Investing in improved public transit along the highway may help address the ongoing problem of hitchhiking making women vulnerable.

This article is a citizen journalist account from on the ground in DC about the mass deployment of national guard and police around Capitol Hill. This article debunks fake news Fox, whose fake news aims to dramatize this event, pushing a narrative of fear, doom and violence.
The document compares the Socialist party platform from 1932 to the legislation enacted under the New Deal. It notes that while New Deal laws were supposedly enacted to fulfill Democratic campaign pledges, critics have argued they actually achieve the goals outlined in the Socialist platform instead. The document aims to show that the philosophy behind the New Deal is destructive and aims to abolish private property rights. It asks readers to carefully consider the evidence presented on the nature and goals of this philosophy.
The document contains fictional Facebook profiles for William Lloyd Garrison and John F. Kennedy. Garrison's profile mentions that he is sick and going to the doctor. Kennedy's profile provides biographical information and mentions he is preparing to sign the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty.

This book review summarizes Gus Payne's book "Falsely Accused" which aims to reveal the truth about the JFK assassination conspiracy. The book answers long-standing questions about why officials like Jim Garrison and the Justice Department refused to investigate the Mafia, particularly Carlos Marcello, and why witnesses changed their stories. Payne closely examines the FBI investigation in New Orleans and possible involvement of Marcello. Excerpts from Chapter 1 discuss how the Kennedy administration planned to deport Marcello and how the FBI denied the existence of organized crime in New Orleans led by agent Regis Kennedy who also led the JFK assassination investigation there.

Abraham Lincoln led the nation during the American Civil War and helped abolish slavery. As president, Lincoln fought to preserve the Union as southern states seceded over the issue of slavery. While he initially believed slavery would die out on its own, Lincoln came to view abolishing slavery as a goal of the war. He issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, which declared the freedom of slaves in rebel states. Lincoln also took steps like suspending habeas corpus that were controversial but helped the Union prevail in the Civil War and begin dismantling the institution of slavery. He was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth five days after the Confederacy surrendered in 1865.

How Stephen Miller Seized the Moment to Battle Immigration
By Jason DeParle
The New York Times
August 27, 2019
WASHINGTON—When historians try to explain how opponents of immigration
captured the Republican Party, they may turn to the spring of 2007, when George W.
Bush threw his waning powers behind a legalization plan and conservative populists
buried it in scorn.
Mr. Bush was so taken aback, he said he worried about America “losing its soul,” and
immigration politics have never been the same.
That spring was significant for another reason, too: An intense young man with wary,
hooded eyes and fiercely anti-immigrant views graduated from college and began a
meteoric rise as a Republican operative. With the timing of a screenplay, the man and
the moment converged.
Stephen Miller was 22 and looking for work in Washington. He lacked government
experience but had media appearances on talk radio and Fox News and a history of
pushing causes like “Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week.” A first-term congresswoman
from Minnesota offered him a job interview and discovered they were reading the same
book: a polemic warning that Muslim immigration cold mean “the end of the world as
we know it.”
By the end of the interview, Representative Michele Bachmann had a new press
secretary. And a dozen years later, Mr. Miller, now a senior adviser to President Trump,
is presiding over one of the most fervent attacks on immigration in American history.
The story of Mr. Miller’s rise has been told with a focus on his pugnacity and paradoxes.
Known more for his enemies than his friends, he is a conservative firebrand from liberal
Santa Monica, Calif., and a descendant of refugees who is seeking to eliminate refugee
programs. He is a Duke graduate in bespoke suits who rails against the perfidy of so-
called elites. Among those who have questioned his moral fitness are his uncle, his
childhood rabbi and 3,400 fellow Duke alumni.
Less attention has been paid to the forces that have abetted his rise and eroded
Republican support for immigration — forces Mr. Miller has personified and advanced
in a career unusually reflective of its times.
Rising fears of terrorism after the Sept. 11 attacks brought new calls to keep immigrants
out. Declining need for industrial labor left fewer businesses clamoring to bring them in.
A surge of migrants across the South stoked a backlash in the party’s geographic base.
Conservative media, once divided, turned against immigration, and immigration-
reduction groups that had operated on the margins grew in numbers and sophistication.
Abandoning calls for minority outreach, the Republican Party chose instead to energize
2
its conservative white base — heeding strategists who said the immigrant vote was not
just a lost cause but an existential threat.
Arriving in Washington as these forces coalesced, Mr. Miller rode the tailwinds with zeal
and skill. Warning of terrorism and disturbed by multic ...
Harriet Beecher Stowe's 1852 novel Uncle Tom's Cabin aroused strong reactions in both the North and South by vividly portraying the cruelty of slavery. It sold millions of copies and influenced public opinion in both America and Europe. In the 1857 Dred Scott decision, the Supreme Court ruled that slaves were property without rights and Congress could not ban slavery in territories, further straining sectional tensions. The 1860 election saw Republicans nominate Abraham Lincoln while the southern Democrats nominated John Breckinridge after walking out of the Democratic convention, reflecting the deep split over slavery in the nation.
1) In 1933, during the Great Depression, G. Warren Shufelt and two others obtained a permit from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to dig for treasure atop Fort Moore Hill using an "X-ray radio machine" and an ancient map.
2) Over the course of a month, crowds gathered to watch as the trio dug numerous holes across the hill but found no treasure. Their efforts became a source of entertainment and ridicule as their excavations yielded nothing.
3) By the end of March 1933, their contract had expired after reaching the permitted depth of 50 feet without success, ending the search "temporarily, without the three treasure seekers or the county being any the richer."
The Ku Klux Klan was a white supremacist movement that originated in the Southern United States after the Civil War. It was founded in 1865 and went through three distinct periods of activity. The KKK used terrorism, including violence and murder, to intimidate African Americans and promote their agenda of racist ideology. Over time their membership declined due to internal conflicts and opposition from civil rights activists like Martin Luther King Jr., though some KKK groups still exist today with only a few thousand members.

2. looked to readers 150 years ago.
As most people know, California was with the Union during the Civil War, and voted both times for
Lincoln -- in a close vote in 1860 and overwhelmingly in 1864. Still, what's less well known is an
incident in which what is now called Silicon Valley almost turned its back on Lincoln. The story goes
like this...
Just before Lincoln was assassinated, he reportedly instructed the Speaker of the House, Schuyler
Colfax, to deliver a big thank-you speech from the President to California's miners. One of the key
California mines on Lincoln's mind was the New Almaden mine in San Jose, just a few miles south of
eBay's current headquarters in Campbell. The mine was the United States' largest producer of red
mercury (quicksilver), the key chemical in gold and silver mining, which the Union needed to finance
the war. Two years earlier, in 1863, a dispute over ownership to the mining lands' title had broken
out, nearly sparking an armed rebellion in Santa Clara Valley against the Union when one of
Lincoln's corrupt aides tried to use federal troops to essentially steal the mine for his own interests.
Lincoln ordered him to call off the troops, and Silicon Valley avoided the shame of having gone
Confederate to protect a lucrative mercury mine.
Still, for some romantic diehards, the idea of a Silicon Valley that would support Wilkes Booth over
Lincoln is an idea to be savored. One of those diehards is a man called Jack "Southern Avenger"
Hunter, author of "John Wilkes Booth Was Right," and former chairman of the Charleston, South
Carolina chapter of the extreme-right League of the South.
More importantly, Hunter is a close associate of Senator Rand Paul, the presidential wannabe who
has announced plans to open an office in Silicon Valley in order to attract tech money for his own
campaign.
How close? In 2011, Hunter co-wrote Sen. Rand Paul's first book, "The Tea Party Goes To
Washington", published in 2011. He also served as Sen. Paul's head of social media, and was the Ron
Paul 2012 campaign's main blogger when Rand's dad ran for president.
In 2013, the Washington Free Beacon was first to reveal that Hunter "spent years working as a pro-
secessionist radio pundit and neo-Confederate activist." Stunningly, as the Huffington Post reported,
Rand Paul stood by his "Southern Avenger," before later allowing him to resign on his own.
Still, as others pointed out, Hunter was hardly the first neo-Confederate on Rand Paul's staff. In
2010, Rand Paul's senate campaign spokesman, Chris Hightower, resigned after a Kentucky blogger
found all sorts of racist gibberish on his MySpace page. In fact, Rand Paul's own "Suggestions for
Further Reading" list in his 2010 book includes books by Thomas Woods, a neo-Confederate
secessionist and former member of the League of the South; and Murray Rothbard, the anarcho-
libertarian who promoted the politics of Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke, and who
supposedly ghost-penned Ron Paul's racist newsletters. Rand Paul has written that Murray Rothbard
"was a great influence on my thinking."
3. As Rand Paul makes the Valley his second home, one wonders if there are any more neo-
Confederates waiting to come out of the Team Rand woodwork, wishing that the New Almaden mine
standoff hadn't ended so peacefully in Lincoln's favor and the Confederate flag had flown over
Silicon Valley.
