Mboni ya Vijana is a youth community organization in Tanzania that aims to alleviate poverty. Over the past 4 years, the group has achieved success in several areas:
1. They established 60 beehives and harvested honey from 13% of them in 2016 for environmental conservation and income generation.
2. They engaged in sustainable agriculture projects including banana, sunflower, maize, and moringa farming as well as constructing a storage facility.
3. They started a microcredit scheme that has benefited 204 women and grown to $16 million in loans for small businesses.
4. They improved access to clean water for 18,000 people by drilling boreholes and producing rope pumps.

2. INTRODUCTION
Mboni ya Vijana is a community based organization that is led by the
youth. The group is aimed at alleviating poverty for the members
and improving the Zeze village as a whole.
The group was started in 2012 and formally registered in 2014 in
Kasulu district.
The group is funded through members’ contributions,
sponsors/donors, loans, and profits from the group’s projects
The group has 15 members (11 Men & 4 Women).
The achievements by the group have been possible due to the
commitment and will of the group members to strive towards their
set goals.
Special thanks and appreciation go to Benedicto Hosea for his will
and selfless commitment in helping the group achieve success,
using his skills, knowledge and experience.
The following are some of the achievements by Mboni ya Vijana
group (MVG) as at December 2016.
3. 1. Bee Keeping
(Environment Conservation)
The group has been able to produce and use
60 modern beehives in Zeze village. In 2016,
they harvested honey from 13% of these
beehives. The photos below illustrate their

8. 2. Sustainable Agriculture
(Agricultural Entrepreneurship/Agribusiness)
Mboni ya Vijana group is involved in
entrepreneurial activities that affect the different
aspects of the economy. One of such activities is
agriculture.
The group has been very successful in agricultural
projects. Not only do the agricultural projects
involve the local community, but they also benefit
the group.

15. Maize Farming
Mboni ya vijana group has successfully
facilitated education on proper and sustainable
agriculture to its members and other
beneficiaries.
After the education and training, the group has
also facilitated the farmers by providing the
inputs for maize farming.
These efforts by the group have resulted in great
success in maize farming in the area.

22. 3. Construction of a Storage
Facility for Agricultural Produce
Mboni ya Vijana group has managed to construct a
storage facility for storage of agricultural produce.
The storage facility has a capacity of up to 100 tones.
The construction of the facility was at a cost 12
million Tanzania shillings.
The storage facility will ease safe storage of
agricultural produce and thus increase efficiency in
selling the produce.

24. 4. Project on Business and Loans.
(MICROCREDIT SCHEME)
Mboni ya Vijana group has been successful in
running a microcredit scheme for women.
The project has benefited 204 women who have
started businesses and thus improved livelihoods for
their families.
Proceeds of this project also funds the day to day
management of the group.
As at now the project has 16 million in the scheme,
up from 600,000 which was the starting capital.

29. 5. Drilling of clean water boreholes and rope
pumps project
Other achievements by this group include the drilling
of boreholes for provision of clean water, and the
production of rope pumps for pumping water from
boreholes and wells.
This project was linked with training of the members
on welding and masonry.
The success of these projects has a big impact in the
lives of the villagers.
As at now, this project on drilling of boreholes and
production of rope pumps has improved the lives of
18,000 members of the community.

34. 6. Craftsmanship
Mboni ya Vijana group has successfully
introduced craftsmanship opportunities to its
members.
These opportunities are expected to go a long
way in reducing unemployment, and increasing
the availability of the services to the local
community.
