5. Overall Representation
The dominant representation in my magazine is young men aged 16-23,
music lovers and musicians themselves. Shown throughout by the choice
of models, props, clothing and settings. My magazine also contains the
alternative representation of instruments again reinforcing the attraction
for musicians. There is the obvious absent representation of women, this
could be perceived in a bad way, but women are also attracted by men,
so women could still be within the audience for this magazine. However
the use of serif fonts, a sophisticated language goes against the average
stereotype for male teenagers. This magazine is representing a very select
group of teenagers who are very conscious of style. Ones who go against
the norm and live life their own way and play by their own rules. The
intelligent, sophisticated type of teenager portrayed in this magazine,
could even begin steer people away from the old drunken, hooded
stereotype.
