Light travels as electric and magnetic waves and interacts with matter in different ways depending on the material. Materials can be transparent and allow most light to pass through, translucent and allow some light to pass through, or opaque where no light can pass through. Light travels extremely fast, taking only 8 minutes to travel from the sun over 90 million miles to earth, and it travels fastest in a vacuum compared to other mediums where its speed is slower. Light also travels in a straight line as it passes through or interacts with different materials and objects.
