Whereas he is also famous as Gandhiji in India and also around the world. I always read about
him everywhere and even studied a lot about him in our history classes. I still remember, the
history class I had in my 8th Grade was all about him. He is a pride to our nation and has a place
in every Indians heart. My maternal great grandmother was from the same village as Gandhiji
and she met him a couple of times which always gives me goosebumps. I heard a lot about him
and a lot of other things from my grandmother. So, I interviewed my maternal grandmother over
Skype for this assignment. I initiated my conversation with general greetings that we usually do. I
decided to talk to her about an event that took place on 12th of March 1930 which is known as the
Dandi March, also known as the Salt march or Salt Satyagraha, which was leaded by Mahatma
Gandhi. I still cannot forget that expression on her face when I asked her about her knowledge
about the Salt Satyagraha, she was too excited to tell me about the event. She informed me that it
was a big march, it was a 24 day march. Even ma ji (mom, my Great Grandmother) was a part of
it, she added. She said that it was a rebel of the local populace against the British officials mainly as
they introduced taxation on salt production, deemed sea salt reclamation activities illegal, and then

Marie Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette, Lafayette for short, was a
French soldier who was involved with many wars, including but not limited to the American
Revolutionary War and the French Revolution. He was a strong, powerful, smart warrior and
was not afraid in the face of battle. He fought long and hard for freedom, and helped France and
America win their independence. Lafayette was born on September 6, 1757 to a wealthy family
in Chavaniac. He married a young woman named Marie Adrienne Françoise de Noailles,
Marquise de La Fayette and were to have four children in their marriage. About a year later, he
was enlisted as a major general and was sent off to America. There, he fought in his first battle: the
Battle of Brandywine. He was shot in the leg and had to recover from his wound for two months
before returning to the war. After many more battles, he set sail for France in 1779.... Show more

He left America in December and in France was greeted by awards and recognition for his heroic
actions and bravery. In 1787, he was appointed to the Assembly of Notables. In 1792, when he
was leading troops into the French Revolution, he was captured by Austrian Troops after
attempting to flee through the Austrian Netherlands. He spent more than five years in prison,
and was released thanks to Napoleon Bonaparte. Lafayette lived the next 37 years of his life
becoming involved with events in his home country France. He was asked to be France s dictator
during France s July Revolution of 1830, but declined the offer. He died on May 20, 1834 at 76.

The name Washington Height s (WH) was adopted in the 1870s and came from Fort Washington
which was named after George Washington. The fort was situated at the Hudson river which is
today referred to as 185th street and was constructed as a fortification during the American
Revolutionary War by the army troops to defend the area from the British army (Fernandez,
2007). The first ever recorded home to be built in this place was in 1856 by Moorewood who
later sold the property to Richard Carmen in 1880. The house was later sold as a summer home
to one James Gordon in 1871. The family later gave the property away to the state to build a park

In the beginning, the Irish immigrants moved here to establish their homes followed by the
European Jews who were running away from the Nazis in 1930 1940s. In the 1950s, the Greeks
moved in to form Astoria community of Manhattan (Rodriguez, 2015).
Several events in 19th and 20th century forced immigrants to move to the Washington heights. For
example, the World Aar I of 1918, saw immigrants from Hungary and Poland who move to WH.
Then there was the German Nazis which spread to other European countries after the start of the

was the existence of German Nazis anti Semitism in Germany for a long time. When Hitler rose
to power in 1933, he ordered anti Semitism which caused several unplanned violence against the
Jews in Germany (McWilliams, 2013). The Germans regarded the Jews as inferiors and saw that
the only way to cleanse Europe was to destroy the Jewish race. After the Germans had lost WWI,
they began seeing the Jews as a cause of their defeat and other economic woes. To Hitler, the
reason they were defeated was that the inferior race of the Jews had breaded with the superior

In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez, focuses her attention on writing about her life for
others to see. Although the book was not published until 1994, Alvarez portrays her younger days
into the book and how the time was back then in the 1950 s. Moving through the novel, readers see
an overview of the book, the life of the author and how it all can all relate to the culture of
dictatorship in the Dominican Republic. In this non fiction historical novel, it allows readers to get
a sense of the lives the girls went through. Readers learn from the very beginning something
traumatic has happened for only one of the four sisters to be alive. A chill goes through her, for
she feels it in her bones, the future is now beginning. By the time it is over, it will be the past,
and she does not want to be the only one left to tell their story (Alvarez 10). As the exposition
starts off, Dede, the only sister alive, is asked about her sisters which lead to a trip down

There isn t much negative space or even hardly any thereof. A lot of the space in the painting is
positive. This gives us more to look at and creates the illusion of depth. Everything behind the
horizon gets smaller and smaller in size and blurred out. Mimicking the way we actually see things
in real life. Things farther away appear smaller and sometimes we cannot make out some of the
lines/shapes beyond us. Things in the foreground, those before the horizon are much larger and we
can make out the shape of the trees and other objects. Also, in the foreground the painting is much
more spaced out rather than the background. This depth in the painting represents the movement of
our eyes from near to far. It looks as if we could actually move through the painting and make our

Over the recent past, there has been major growth in illegal trafficking of humans, firearms and
most importantly drugs (UN, 2012). These kinds of trafficking are characterized by greater
organisation levels. They are also denoted by the presence of criminal groups and chains. Though
these activities are not new, both the geographic area and scale of the present problem is
unprecedented. The value of illegal trade in 2009 throughout the world was about $1.3 trillion
(Jenner, 2010). Drug smuggling is a major concern wherein it has major adverse effects due to the
large illegal profits it produces (Jenner, 2010). In different drug production regions and transit areas,
criminal groups disregard state authority and exiting laws by promoting corruption, affecting the
economy and compromising elections (UN, 2012). Using the UK as a case in point, this paper
describes drug smuggling, its development, and the effects, the challenges for investigators and
judicial processes and strategies to manage with the problem.

How were human beings created? How has life come to be? How was the earth created? These are
some very important questions that humans have tried to answer for ages. In an attempt to answer
these questions, different cultures around the world developed different beliefs. Some believe that
