[WSO2 Summit Americas 2020] APIs: The Products of the 21st Century.pdfWSO2
APIs are the oil of the digital world. Different forms and types of APIs power the digital mesh to which we’re all connected to. The potential and reach of APIs however are heavily underutilized today in many organizations. The root cause of this seems to be the lack of a “product mindset” on APIs. Organizations that strategically invest in building a product mindset for APIs have been successful in putting themselves significantly ahead of the curve in innovation. In this session, Nuwan will talk about six key points that will be valuable for API product managers and architects to bring in a product mindset to APIs within their organizations. This will help them to build a more streamlined, agile, and repeatable process that converts their APIs into digital products.
[WSO2 Summit Americas 2020] Building an Interactive API MarketplaceWSO2
In an API-driven world, consumers want to discover APIs while producers seek to list their APIs and API products in a thriving API ecosystem.
The primary goal of an API marketplace is to create a platform that supports this high-intensive interaction seamlessly while also transforming the technical definition of a consumer and a producer into a natural business experience, which happens between a buyer and a seller.
This deck will present the capabilities of an API marketplace, how it can be used for all APIs at different levels in an organization, and how it easily falls into place in an Integrated API Supply Chain.

Enterprises are increasingly adopting different types of devices into their business operations every day. Some of these are standard mobile devices such as tablets, smartphones, and laptops, while other categories of devices such as sensors, PLCs, communication gateways, edge computing devices, CCTV cameras, etc. are also heavily used to monitor and control various areas that impact the business supply/consumption chain. When using these types of devices, business processes must be changed to enable seamless communications while adhering to the rest of the enterprise application development paradigms. This is when a unified set of API endpoints (UEM) representing complete enterprise device deployment becomes a game-changer.
This deck discusses how the Entgra IoT Platform offers a standardized set of APIs for making enterprise device onboarding simpler, be it standard mobile devices traditionally managed through MDMs or IoTtype of devices. Reducing DevOps Burden with Git-based CI/CD Pipelines for APIsWSO2
Businesses are now relying heavily on APIs that are running business-critical operations. It’s hard to imagine a stable and effective API-driven business without some form of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery/Deployment (CI/CD). Having a CI/CD pipeline for APIs ensures the stability of the API and enables speedy and effective processes when releasing new features and bug fixes that assist to keep the business running smoothly.
A typical CI/CD pipeline starts with a central repository that keeps the API artifacts. A new change that is introduced needs to be fully tested before promoting to the upper environment. Tying the CI/CD pipeline with a widely used Version Control System like GIT makes it easy to fully automate this.
With the new release of API Controller, it has the built-in support to make use of GIT to manage API deployments. It is armed with a simple yet powerful command set to deploy APIs while ensuring the APIs are in a fully working state.

Today, enterprises leverage digital transformation to stay ahead of the competition, streamline processes, and meet increasing customer requirements. Digital assets fuel the digital transformation process. However, over time, as enterprises build more and more digital assets, it becomes increasingly challenging to keep track of them all. This is even more difficult in large globally distributed organizations with multiple business units and independent teams.
This is why ‘governance’ is critical and cannot be overlooked. Without the right governance, enterprises will add ‘technical debt’, by replicating the same kind of work in different teams, and become inefficient. Maintaining digital assets will become costly and time-consuming; this will only become worse over time.
What if there is a way to have a unified view of all the digital assets in the enterprise—wherever they are intended to run at runtime—and architects could have a clearer idea of the available digital assets? What if there’s a way to know about the asset owners and other important metadata? And what if we can get the dependencies of assets and have a visualization of such relationships?
Here are many important facets that need to be considered for a digital asset for compliance and controlling governance. The WSO2 Digital Asset Governance solution is a tailor-made solution to address this important problem.

API Driven Applications - An ecosystem architectureWSO2
Today people are connected to information sources with various disparate means. PC is the least in use. From powerful mobile devices, smart televisions, wearable electronics and other ubiquitous computing equipments the entire generation is wired to one another, creating and consuming information. Today if a business wants to reach a market segment; taking the business online is not good enough. It has to innovate on how to reach customers with dozens of available streams. Simply creating a modern e-commerce portal will bring almost no revenue, the business has to innovate on creating an ecosystem around the consumer delivering value.
For this reason the developer community is now increasingly focussing on the API design and architecture practices as opposed to application design and development. Applications are now derived by APIs and now widely exists as thin but rich layers of user interfaces. API first approach have paid well when it comes to creating multiple information streams to deliver and acquire information. Today a successful business model means not only selling the product to the customer but understanding the customer and API driven design supports this business perception.
On the other hand consumer today are far more computer literate than before; they are concerned about online identity, privacy and secure conversation. Application developers need to focus on federated identity, privacy policies and establishing trusted secure communications and sharing these mechanisms with the users by building the trust as well as making the user experience seamless.
This talk will mainly focus on the aforesaid aspects of API driven application design and development. Nuwan will discuss and demonstrate key elements of API driven application ecosystem.

[WSO2 Summit APAC 2020] APIs: The Products of the 21st CenturyWSO2

Best Practices for Productizing APIs with API Management and Automated TestingWSO2
When productizing your APIs to create new sources of revenue or to improve user experience with modern apps or services, your toughest challenge will likely come from ensuring API quality as you accelerate up to DevOps speeds. Along with a much faster time to market, you will need to handle the high complexity and potential costs and security risks that come with a proliferation of integrations. Increasingly, companies are solving their quality-at-speed challenges with continuous API management that extend across the whole product lifecycle. However, continuous API management leaves QA vulnerabilities that can only be covered by the right continuous testing solution.
Join this webinar to learn what those vulnerabilities look like, and how to unify API management and API testing to solve the problem via two cloud-native platforms. Simplify QA in the product lifecycle through Design, Build, Test, and Release, and enforce a standardized testing/QA policy across the entire organization.
The slide deck will showcase:
- What makes a good API product
- The API product mantra
- The importance of API testing
- How companies can achieve quality at DevOps speed
- How to release more reliable, better-performing APIs

APIs are critical for any modern application, whether it be for mobile apps, B2B integration, digital disruption or agile integration strategies. With this greater focus on APIs comes the increased need for API management. When adopting API management many make the mistake of giving it less significance and setting themselves up for big problems.
In this webinar, WSO2’s guest speaker Randy Heffner, analyst at Forrester Research, will set the record straight by providing a clear definition for API management - and the broader API platform - that enterprises need to create and implement a successful API strategy. Using WSO2 customer user stories, Isabelle Mauny, the vice president of product management at WSO2, will then explain how choosing the proper API management platform can set yourself on the road to success for API-led business transformation.

Less Is More: Utilizing Ballerina to Architect a Cloud Data PlatformWSO2
At its core, the challenge of managing Human Resources data is an integration challenge: estimates range from 2-3 HR systems in use at a typical SMB, up to a few dozen systems implemented amongst enterprise HR departments, and these systems seldom integrate seamlessly between themselves. Providing a multi-tenant, cloud-native solution to integrate these hundreds of HR-related systems, normalize their disparate data models and then render that consolidated information for stakeholder decision making has been a substantial undertaking, but one significantly eased by leveraging Ballerina. In this session, we’ll cover:
The overall software architecture for VHR’s Cloud Data Platform
Critical decision points leading to adoption of Ballerina for the CDP
Ballerina’s role in multiple evolutionary steps to the current architecture
Roadmap for the CDP architecture and plans for Ballerina
WSO2’s partnership in bringing continual success for the CD
The integration landscape is changing rapidly with the introduction of technologies like GraphQL, gRPC, stream processing, iPaaS, and platformless. However, not all existing applications and industries can keep up with these new technologies. Certain industries, like manufacturing, logistics, and finance, still rely on well-established EDI-based message formats. Some applications use XML or CSV with file-based communications, while others have strict on premises deployment requirements. This talk focuses on how Ballerina's built-in integration capabilities can bridge the gap between "old" and "new" technologies, modernizing enterprise applications without disrupting business operations.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
