Kings of Leon is an American indie rock band formed in Tennessee in 1999 by three brothers and a cousin. The band's early music blended Southern rock and blues influences but has expanded over the years to include different genres and a more alternative, arena rock sound. They were formed after two brothers moved to Nashville to experience rock music culture following their parents' divorce, and recruited their youngest brother and cousin after they also moved to Nashville in 1999.

Who are they?Kings of Leon are an American indie rock band that formed in Tennessee in 1999, consisting of brothers Anthony Caleb Followill, Ivan Nathan Followill and Michael Jared Followill, with their cousin Cameron Matthew Followill,. Each member of the family group is known by his middle name as opposed to his first given name.

4. How were they formed?(part one)When the boys' father resigned from the church and their parents divorced in 1997, Nathan and Caleb relocated to Nashville and embraced the rock music and lifestyle they had never had a chance to experience, attempting to break into the music industry.

5. Part Two…They met songwriter Angelo Petraglia who taught them their songwriting skillsWhen youngest brother Jared and cousin Matthew also moved to Nashville in 1999, Kings of Leon was formed. They named the band after the brothers' father and grandfather, who were both called Leon.

7. Album Covers- The Youth and Young Manhood cover (pictured left) was the band’s first album. This shows the 4 members of the band on a white background. This album cover looks similar to that of The Beetles, and the band appear to look similar to them in the early days too, all with long hair.- Their next album, Aha Shake Heartbreak, has a completely different style to that of the first cover. The black background suggests the album will be darker than the first, but the white flower in the middle still is there to represent the good.

8. Album Covers Part Two- The third album cover, Because of the Times, follows on with the dark background suggesting the album is quite dark. This cover shows a light bulb smashing, and therefore is darker than the album before with the white flower.- The next album cover, Only By The Night, is similar to the first album cover, as it shows bits of all the band members faces on it. It has been put together to look like the face of a bird, but from what we can see of the band members, they look a lot different to what they did on the first album cover
