Horror/Thriller
Outline Ideas Idea one: A man gets off a train at night, walking home suspense builds and finally it finishes on a cut to someone behind him. Idea two: Little girl playing with a doll, then falls asleep and we see the doll wake up and move towards her. Idea three: Teenagers playing with a Ouija board, turns into creepy things happening.
Footsteps ‘Are you walking alone’ Characters: A business man, he’s getting off the train at around 11.30 after coming back from work in London, he steps off the train at a rural station walking back through underground passes. He starts to get paranoid hearing noises that aren’t actually there. The tension builds, he hears footsteps but he can’t see anything. Then it ends on a cut at someone’s feet behind him.
Visual Themes and Style There’s going to be a theme of loneliness this will be created by the mise en scene. For example it will be filmed in the dark with no people around so the man will be all on his own. One theme I’m trying to create is helplessness, the film would have more suspense and tension if the audience thought the man was all alone and helpless to an attack. I want to have a thriller style to the scene, this will be created by the suspense and tension. The audience will be expecting something to happen, the non diegetic sound will be leading to something. As supposed to if you wanted to a horror where the audience wouldn’t be expecting the action.
Location: Horsley station. The reason for this is firstly because it’s a rural station so you would already begin to feel his isolation. Also there is a path that goes about 600 metres, parallel next to the train track with woods on the other side. And from my own experiences of walking down this at path, you become very paranoid and feel isolated. This location would be perfect for creating the loneliness and isolation to make the man and the audience paranoid of what’s around them.
Generic Conventions The businessman will convert to the stereotype. The costume, he will be wearing a suit. Props, he will be carrying a briefcase with either an umbrella or a newspaper.
Unique Selling Point Unique selling point would be the familiarity of the Business mans situation to the audience. Most people have been in similar situations where they feel there alone and being followed, therefore they would feel for the character.
