Lent: A Season of
Renewing our Hope
Journeying with Hope
Breathing Prayer
Breathe in
Lord, I receive your peace.
Breathe out
Lord, I surrender my worries.
What is a Recollection?
A time to disconnect:
Worries
Busy Schedule
Gadgets and Phones
In order to regain one’s
focus.
A time to reconnect
with yourself, with
your classmates,
and with God. We
reconnect to what
gives life and
meaning to us,
GOD.
Free yourself from
too much
attachments, and
allow the Lord to
make you realize
that life is simple
and beautiful.
What comes into
your mind when you
hear the word hope?
Is there
something to
hope for?
Beginning to Walk with Jesus in the Water
of Life
Identify your own fears that paralyzes you
to trust in Jesus’ presence in your life.
Are you still hopeful about your life
despite your fears?
Life itself is like the
vast sea. Sometimes,
the sea can be
peaceful or rough.
The season of Lent is an
opportunity for us to encounter
Jesus who visits us in both
peaceful and stormy
circumstances of our everyday
life. Lent is a period in which we
journey with Jesus in his Paschal
mystery, his Passion and Death,
to the glorious celebration of
Easter.
Christ never avoided to escape
the difficulties of human life. He
suffered with us. He
experienced being thirsty,
afraid of dying, and even being
turned back by his friends
when he was about to face his
own death. Yet despite his
sufferings, Christ remained in
the presence of his Father.
Finding Grace
1. In a small piece of paper, write the
experiences that pains you as of the moment.
You can write how many as it is.
2. Despite the bitter experiences that you
encountered, what are the positive things in
life that makes you hopeful?
A group sharing will follow.
You are given 5 minutes to write, and another
ten minutes for sharing.
The Jubilee Year
of Hope is a
time to renew
faith and share
it with others.
It's a time to look to
the future with hope,
despite the
challenges of war,
poverty, climate
change, and the
COVID-19
pandemic.
It's a time to fan
the flame of hope
and help others
find strength and
certainty.
He dismissed the crowds
He went up to the mountain to
pray
Jesus teaches us that we humbly
depend on the source of life and
blessings which is God alone.
Human beings and Creation is
made to draw life with God.
Without God, we are nothing.
Early in the morning, he
came walking toward them
on the
sea.
God approaches us in both
difficult and joyful moments
of life. God is involved in our
lives, in both joys and pains.
The disciples saw Jesus, but they
were terrified. They thought that
they had seen a ghost.
“Take heart, it is I do not be
afraid.
Our fear could blind us to the
reality that God is always present
in us. Fear robs us of our hope. It
clouds our vision of a hopeful
future that waits us.
Peter was doubtful: “Lord, if it is
you, command me to come to
you on the water. Jesus said;
“Come”.
Peter would like to be CERTAIN
if that person is really Jesus. The
rough journey of life will make us
doubtful of God’s work. Just like
Peter, we wanted to be assured
that everything will be turning well.
Peter noticed the strong wind, he
became frightened, and begun to
sink. He cried out to Jesus, “Lord, save
me!”
We are constantly swept by the strong
waves of life. We could easily drown
into our own fear. In the midst of
difficulties, we must acknowledge to
humbly depend on God:
Lord, save me!
Jesus immediately reached out his
hand and said to Peter: “You of little
faith, why did you doubt?” When they
were all in the boat, the disciples said
to him, “Truly, you are the Son of God.
There can be no doubt that goodness
will have the upper hand in your life
and that all the struggles will prove
worthwhile. Do not be afraid, trust in
God’s providence.
Enflaming the Hope of One Another
1. The students will prepare a piece of
paper.
2. The instructor will remind them to
place the piece of paper at their backs.
3. The students will write positive
messages for their classmates that will
empower them to be hopeful.
Offering One’s Fears in the Foot of the
Cross
Gracious God, our God of hope,
we come to You today, each in
our different seasons of life.
Lord, we admit that sometimes
our minds are full of hopeless
thoughts. We get so discouraged,
Lord, that we lose sight of all we
have to be grateful for.
So today, Lord, we call out to You, in
thankfulness and praise. We lay down
all “gloom and doom” thoughts in
exchange for Your thoughts.
Love, joy, peace, goodness, and hope…
these are the beautiful things we focus
on now. Thank You. Thank You for
never running out of hope. We draw
from Your endless reservoirs of hope
today.
In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
