There is a significant homeless population in Hawaii, with over 12,000 experiencing homelessness at some point during the year. On any given day, there are over 6,300 homeless people, and over 30% are children. Homelessness is difficult to address because it has many contributing factors, such as high living costs, low wages, mental health issues, and substance abuse. The government has passed laws against public sleeping and sitting to limit tourist exposure to homelessness.
