MS. HOLSOPPLE’S CLASSROOM &
STUDENT POPULATION
2014-2015 SCHOOL YEAR
CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT
The classroom theme for the year is “Hollywood”. I wanted to do a themed room because
no other teacher does in the school. I wanted students to be excited to come into the
classroom and experience something different.
CLASSROOM SET-UP
The students’ desks are in pairs that I have linked
a lower academic student with a higher academic
student. Each pair can then be in a group of four
when needed.
STUDENT POPULATION: CLASSROOM
• My classroom consists of 24 fifth grade students
• There are 10 boys and 14 girls
• 23 students are Caucasian, 1 student is African
American
• 1 student has an IEP (this student gets pulled out for
reading for 45 minutes a day 2 students have 504s
READING ABILITY:
• Based on the program Achieve3000, 17 of 24 students (71%) are reading at the
appropriate lexile level based on the new common core reading levels.
• I have used these findings to create small groups for reading instruction
intervention in the classroom. When students are working in small groups
during reading, I pull the lowest students into my group.
• Students often work in pairs-in which I will pair a low lexile level student with a
higher lexile level reader.
MATH ABILITY:
• Based on SMI (Scholastic Math Inventory), 15 of 24 students (63%) are at grade
level in Math and do not require interventions.
• I use the extra extension lessons through Everyday Math to help my students
that are marked as red (needing intervention). Our math interventionist also
comes to my classroom twice a week for 30 minutes each time. She works with
the small group of students marked “red” most days but sometimes works with
the whole classroom.
STUDENT POPULATION: SCHOOL
• There are a total of 384 students enrolled at Central Elementary
• Grades range from Kindergarten to 5th grade
• Grades K-2 have 3 classrooms, 3rd-5th each have 2 classrooms
• 92% of students are Caucasian, 6% African American
• Many of our students are from low income and one parent families

  • 3. CLASSROOM SET-UP The students’ desks are in pairs that I have linked a lower academic student with a higher academic student. Each pair can then be in a group of four when needed.
  • 4. STUDENT POPULATION: CLASSROOM • My classroom consists of 24 fifth grade students • There are 10 boys and 14 girls • 23 students are Caucasian, 1 student is African American • 1 student has an IEP (this student gets pulled out for reading for 45 minutes a day 2 students have 504s
  • 5. READING ABILITY: • Based on the program Achieve3000, 17 of 24 students (71%) are reading at the appropriate lexile level based on the new common core reading levels. • I have used these findings to create small groups for reading instruction intervention in the classroom. When students are working in small groups during reading, I pull the lowest students into my group. • Students often work in pairs-in which I will pair a low lexile level student with a higher lexile level reader.

MATH ABILITY: • Based on SMI (Scholastic Math Inventory), 15 of 24 students (63%) are at grade level in Math and do not require interventions. • I use the extra extension lessons through Everyday Math to help my students that are marked as red (needing intervention). Our math interventionist also comes to my classroom twice a week for 30 minutes each time. She works with the small group of students marked “red” most days but sometimes works with the whole classroom.

STUDENT POPULATION: SCHOOL • There are a total of 384 students enrolled at Central Elementary • Grades range from Kindergarten to 5th grade • Grades K-2 have 3 classrooms, 3rd-5th each have 2 classrooms • 92% of students are Caucasian, 6% African American • Many of our students are from low income and one parent families
