Boeing demonstrated the HoloLens augmented reality headset to 95 Airmen at the 305th Air Mobility Wing Infinity Spark Innovation Lab. The HoloLens allows users to see technical data overlaid on the physical environment and could reduce aircraft maintenance times by 75% by improving situational awareness and guidance. Airmen who tried the HoloLens felt it could make their jobs more efficient by displaying loading instructions and allowing hands-free troubleshooting. It was also seen as safer for training than current methods.

S e p t e m b e r 27th. They expressed their
e x c i t e m e n t by stating h o w t h e HoloLens
c o u l d i m p r o v e their w o r k p e r f o r m a nc e .
The HoloLens is o n its way t o provide a
m o r e efficient and effective way t o load
aircraft pallets o n t o t h e planes by
dis playing a u g m e n t e d d a t a a n d
showc as ing precision l o a d i n g of aircraft
pallets. This capability will c u t d o w n o n
processing t i m e w h i c h will lead t o
increased m is sion preparedness and
aircraft availability for the 305th AMW.

Maintenance Unit, KC-10 Officer in Charge,
experienced the HoloLens d e m o on
Thursday, Septem ber 27th. The Lt exclaim ed
h o w impressive the reliability of the
c o m m a n d s on the HoloLens were; "They
were flawless". This is especially crucial
during critical tim es w h e n a m aintainer' s
hands m ay be preocc upied turning a
wr e n c h and needs outside assistance,
hands- free operation by either searching the
w e b or even calling on som eone else for
additional support on a job. This feature will
elim inate waste and cut out t i m e it takes to
m e e t those d e m a n d s of the job. The Lt
further explained h o w the HoloLens'
technological capabilities could substantially
reduce the requirem ent for instructors,
allowing for m o r e t i m e out on the flightline
in lieu of in a classroom setting.
