Sam Walton founded Wal-Mart in 1962 in Rogers, Arkansas, starting as a franchise of the Ben Franklin chain called "Walton's Five and Dime", which became Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart has over 3,000 stores in the US, pays employees an average of $8 an hour without health benefits, and was sued over 4,500 times in 2000. The current CEO is Lee Scott, who earns $1.4 million annually and has implemented environmental initiatives such as obtaining 15% of energy from wind power and investing $500 million in environmental projects in 2007.
