June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

1. THE HOLLYWOOD QUIZ
ONE FOR THE COUCH POTATOES
AMID THE LOCKDOWN
By - Amritansh Tiwari & Sourav Madanpuri
2. 1. A must in the list
It was a box-office disappointment, earning only $16 million
during its initial theatrical run. Many reasons were cited for its
failure at the time, including competition from films such as Pulp
Fiction and Forrest Gump, to lack of female characters, and even
the title, which was considered to be confusing for audiences.
But later, it went on to receive multiple award nominations,
including seven Academy Award nominations.
One of the most famous quotes from the movie (and my
personal favourite) is “Get busy living or get busy dying”.
Which movie?
3. 2. The Holy Grail
“El Indio’’ Fernandez. Ask old folks in Mexico City about him, and
they'll tell you they love his movies. Especially Maria Candelaria, the
movie Fernandez wrote and directed that won the top prize at the
1946 Cannes Film Festival and put Mexican films on the world stage.
According to the legend, in 1928 MGM's art director Cedric Gibbons,
one of the original Motion Picture Academy members, was tasked
with creating this. In need of a model, Gibbons was introduced by
his future wife, actress Dolores del Río, to Fernández as he had a
very atheletic build. Reportedly, Fernández had to be persuaded to
model nude for it. It is ironic that perhaps one of the most iconic
things in Hollywood is actually Mexican!

5. 4. One of the greatest
In his 2015 biography of X, Patrick McGilligan reported that
Mankiewicz himself stated that the word “Y" was taken from the
name of a famous racehorse, Old Y. Mankiewicz had a bet on the
horse in the 1914 Kentucky Derby, which he won, and McGilligan
wrote that "Old Y symbolized his lost youth, and the break with his
family“ just like in the movie Z.
In testimony for the Lundberg suit, Mankiewicz said, "I had
undergone psycho-analysis and Y, under circumstances slightly
resembling the circumstances in Z ,played a prominent part.“
Give X,Y and Z.

Funky Flashman is a fictional character, an entrepreneur in
the DC Universe. Created by Jack Kirby, the character first
appeared in the pages of Mister Miracle during the early
1970s.
He has no superhuman powers. However, he is very
charismatic, charming and a skilled businessman. Nothing is
known about Funky's past except that he and his sidekick
Houseroy (popularly considered to be a caricature of Roy
Thomas) were business associates of a Colonel Mockingbird.
Funky is popularly considered a satiric caricature of?
7. 6. Disney’s gamble
Walt Disney had to fight to get the film produced. Both his brother
Roy Disney and his wife attempted to talk him out of it, and the
Hollywood movie industry mockingly referred to film as “Disney's
Folly” while it was in production.
He even had to mortgage his house to help the film's production,
which eventually ran up a total cost of just over $1.5 million, a
massive sum for a feature film in 1937. It was also the first color
feature-length animated film with optical sound in movie history.
The British Board of Film Censors gave the film an A-certificate
which resulted in a nationwide controversy as to whether the
fantasy was too frightening for younger audiences. Nevertheless,
most local authorities simply overrode the censor's decision and
gave the film a U-certificate.
Which movie?
8. 7.
X says, “I think ‘Y’ is a beautiful film and it looks terrific and as I’ve
said before, it’s like a big, beautiful Cadillac with no engine inside it.
I kept my mouth shut at the time, but I didn’t care for it much”
X has said the female character in the film is “One of the most
misogynistic characters ever put on film. She's basically just there to
scream and be stupid and that's not the woman that I wrote about.”
and has described the director’s film as being “very cold” (which
indeed it was).
X hated Y so much, he produced his own miniseries of the film in
1997 (which was met with mixed reviews).

Jerry: Hello? Hello. I'm lookin' for my wife.
Wait. Okay...okay...okay. If this is where it has to happen, then this is
where it has to happen. I'm not letting you get rid of me. How about
that? This used to be my specialty. You know, I was good in a living
room. They'd send me in there, and I'd do it alone. And now I just... But
tonight, our little project, our company had a very big night -- a very,
very big night. But it wasn't complete, wasn't nearly close to being in
the same vicinity as complete, because I couldn't share it with you. I
couldn't hear your voice or laugh about it with you. I miss my -- I miss
my wife.
We live in a cynical world, a cynical world, and we work in a business of
tough competitors. I love you. You -- complete me.
And I just had --

Star Wars Day, May 4, celebrates George Lucas's Star Wars media
franchise. Observance of the commemorative day spread quickly
through media and grassroots celebrations. The date was chosen for
the pun on the catchphrase "May the Force be with you" as "May the
Fourth be with you". Star Wars fans across the world have chosen to
celebrate the holiday. It has since been embraced by Lucasfilm and
parent company Disney as an annual celebration of Star Wars.
The pun doesn’t stop here. Some recognize the following day, May 5,
as “___________________________", a play on Star Wars: Episode III
and other villainous characters from the Star Wars series rather than
the Jedi.
Others celebrate this one day later, on May 6, citing
“________________________" as a play on the trilogy aspect of the
Star Wars films.
FITB(any one).
11. 10. Realization
This famous movie of 2000s had a brilliant cast and based on
true incidents perhaps related to a novelist, the protagonist.
The biggest revelation after the release of the movie to the
writer was why his wife left him in the movie, which he could
not figure out in real life before he watched it.
Id the novelist and the movie.
13. 12. Not a fight movie
X spent several weeks learning to fight in a corridor that
spun like “a giant hamster wheel” . Nolan said of the
device, “It was like some incredible torture device; we
thrashed him for weeks, but in the end we looked at the
footage, and it looks unlike anything any of us has seen
before. The rhythm of it is unique, and when you watch it,
even if you know how it was done, it confuses your
perceptions. It’s unsettling in a wonderful way”.
Guess the actor and the movie.
14. 13. Hollywood Connect
The following image features a famous
medal stuck in bronze and measures
approximately 44mm in length and
36mm wide. The medal's obverse
depicts a shield bearing the arms of X

superimposed on an anchor and laurel
wreath, crossed swords above.
The reverse of the medal features a
burning oil lamp over a tablet with the
inscription of X in native language and a
memorable year for X.
