HMV started in 1921 with their first store in Oxford Street selling records and using their name for radio and television production. HMV stands for "His Master's Voice", inspired by the painting of the same name showing a dog named Nipper listening to a phonograph. While their original logo depicted this dog, the logo has changed over time as HMV stores have also evolved, originally selling only records and later DVDs, Blu-rays, and more as technology advanced.
