 HMV was founded in the United Kingdom on
the 20th July 1921.
 The trademark image comes from a painting
by English artist Francis Barraud, A.R.A. and
titled His Master's Voice. It was acquired
from the artist in 1899 by the newly formed
Gramophone Company. According to
contemporary Gramophone Company
publicity material, the dog, a fox terrier
named Nipper, had originally belonged to
Barraud's brother Mark.
 The name HMV stands for 'His Masters Voice‘
 HMV Retail Ltd, formerly HMV Group plc, is
a British entertainment retailing company
operating in the United Kingdom and the
Republic of Ireland.
 The brands iconic logo of nipper the dog was
first used on the company's advertising in the
1920's and was used on the front of its first
ever store in Oxford Street when it opened in
1921. Over the years, the dog logo has been
changed by others, but it is always simple.
