Our primary language that we use is Hmong.

General Vang Pao
In our culture, one important person
is General Vang Pao. He is important
because he is fought for the land that
we live in. He was born on December 8,
1929, in Xiangkhouang Province, Laos
and die on January 6, 2011, in
Clovis, CA.
Txiv Neeb
Another important person is the Txiv
Neeb(Shaman). He/She is the person who
helps take away the spirit in our home or
body. The shaman is the person who do the
jingle bell and go to the underworld to
talk to the spirit and bring the living
human’s spirit back.
Jingle bell is what the Txiv
Neeb(Shaman) do. Jingle bell is use
for nob peb caug(repeating year),
sick family member, new house, and
many more. There is another word we
call jingle bell which is called hu
plig. Hu plig is use for a pregnant
wife, new born baby, and also new
years.

Xyoo Tshiab (Hmong New Year)
Hmong new year is a festival that we
celebrate every year. Hmong New Year
celebration festival have sports,
music, entertainment, beauty pageant
and a lot of food. This tradition is
for young men and women to select and
find their mates.
Hmong Funeral
Hmong Funeral is like all funerals but we
do it for three day straight and the
fourth day is the burial day. To send the
dead person’s spirit off, there are at
least two people who can play the qeej and
the drum. One person play the qeej and
other person play the drum.

People in my home culture
have different religions,
but the primary one is
Animism. This religion
believes in spirits, ghosts,
and monsters.
Hmong Instruments
Qeej- An instrument to be played as for fun or sending
someone’s spirit off
Xim Xaus(Hmong Violin)- It is be played as entertainment or
it is played as for fun
Ncas- It is used for play at night when you are meeting a
girl by flirting with her using ncas. If she liking what
you are playing then she will respond back also with lub
ncas to you as in she also like you and interest in you.
Hmong Clothes (white)
A traditional white Hmong clothes have
a plain or small design skirt with a
black and blue shirt. The accessories
is diam siv, diam sev, lub xaus, and a
hat.
Hmong Clothes (green)
For a green hmong clothes, the skirt have a
pretty colorful skirt with a nice colorful
shirt in any color. The accessories is
more bold, bigger and showed off more.
