Lil Adi was born in 1889 in Austria-Hungary to Alois Hitler and Klara Pölzl. He had a difficult childhood, with an abusive father and developing strong feelings of German nationalism and antisemitism from a young age. After failing to be accepted to art school twice, Hitler moved to Munich where he joined the German Workers' Party, which he helped transform into the Nazi party through his skills as an orator.
