Dayanand Saraswati was a Hindu reformer and founder of the Arya Samaj. He was born in 1824 in Gujarat to Karshanji Lalji Tiwari and Yashodabai. He received an early education studying Hindu scriptures and later pursued more formal education in subjects like logic and philosophy. Dayanand founded the Arya Samaj organization, which established 10 principles for social and spiritual betterment based on the Vedas. He also started the Shuddhi movement to encourage individuals to return to Hinduism if they had converted to another religion.

SOCIETY
Swami Dayanand, an influencer of the freedom movement in India,
founded a Hindu reformation organization called Arya Samaj.
 The Arya Scholars created ten of its principles that are very different
from Hinduism but based on the Vedas.
These principles aim to advance individuals and society through
humankind’s physical, spiritual, and social betterment.
Swami Dayananda also started the movement called the ‘Shuddhi
Movement’.
 It was a self-taught movement for those individuals to return
to their religion (Hinduism), who was unwantedly or voluntarily

5. EDUCATION
 Dayanand Saraswati received his early education in a traditional Sanskrit pathshala (school)
where he studied the Vedas, Upanishads, and other classical Hindu scriptures.
 Later, Dayanand Saraswati pursued further education and studied subjects like logic, grammar,
philosophy, and Vedanta under the guidance of renowned scholars. He mastered Sanskrit and
became well-versed in various branches of Vedic literature.
 He recognized the importance of modern education and believed that it was essential for the
progress of society. To broaden his horizons, he learned English, studied Western philosophy,

8. PARENTS
Raja Ram Mohan Roy was born into a Brahmin family.
His father's name was Ramkanta Roy,
 and his mother's name was Tarinidevi.
 Ramkanta Roy was a Vaishnavite (follower of Lord
Vishnu) and worked as a revenue collector for the East India
Company.
Tarinidevi was a pious and educated woman who influenced
her son's early upbringing and education.
