The Bombay Stock Exchange is considered Asia's oldest stock exchange, originally starting under a banyan tree in Mumbai where stock brokers would gather. It was later formally established as the Native Share and Stock Brokers Association, and is now one of the largest stock exchanges in the world based on market capitalization.
