Abstract
Terahertz spectral analysis has been conducted on epitaxially grown semiconductor structures. Epitaxially grown semiconductors are important for microelectronic and optoelectronic devices and also for integrated circuits
fabricated using semiconductors. In this paper, we report results of terahertz time-domain spectroscopy of grown
SiGe layers on Ge buffer and separately a Ge buffer that was grown on a Si <001> wafer. In particular, evolution of
the time-domain spectra as a function of thickness of both samples was investigated by the terahertz pump-probe
technique. Representative spectra were analyzed to determine the respective layers’ spectral signatures. It was found that the spectroscopic analysis uniquely identified different layers by characteristic absorbance peaks. In addition, terahertz imaging was conducted in a non-destructive, non-contact mode for detecting lattice stacking fault and dislocations. Sub-surface imaging of grown SiGe layers on Ge buffer and that of the Ge buffer grown on a Si wafer reveals interesting lattice features in both samples. A comparison with TEM images of the samples exhibits that the terahertz image reproduces the dimensions found from TEM images within the experimental error limits. In particular, 3D images of both samples were generated by the terahertz reconstructive technique. The images were analyzed by graphical means to determine the respective layer thicknesses. The Agora project is a collaboration between the History and Computer Science departments at the VU University Amsterdam, the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and the Dutch national audiovisual archive Beeld en Geluid. The aim of Agora is to develop a social platform in which museum objects can be placed into an explicit (art)historic context. Through the (art)historic context, objects from highly diverse museum collections can be related, resulting in a more complete and illustrated description of historical events. End-users will also be allowed to create their own personal narratives which will lead to theoretical reflection on the meaning of digitally mediated public history in contemporary society.

The Digital Presence of Museums and the Implications for Collective Memory by...
This study examines the role cultural heritage professionals envision for their institutions’ digital presence, finding that far from being secondary to the physical institutions they represent, cultural heritage websites are experiences in and of themselves. Through digital-only resources and experiences, cultural heritage institutions are making possible a “visit” not replicable in the physical museum. Many galleries, libraries, archives, and museums are attempting to engage online visitors in a variety of ways, creating opportunities for user participation and personalization of their experience. In addition, because of their roles in managing, disseminating, and curating information, cultural heritage professionals are in the position through these online visits to influence the collective memory of society. What opportunities are cultural heritage professionals creating on these sites, and how are visitors engaging with them? This study presents the results of exploratory interviews with cultural heritage professionals about their expectations for user participation and how they envision their institutions’ digital presence. It includes a discussion of the implications for shaping the collective memory of society and directions for future research.

2) Providing access to 3D content online has been challenging due to large file sizes and a lack of standard formats and viewers. However, technologies like Sketchfab now allow users to interact with 3D models within Europeana.
3) For 3D content to be truly accessible and reusable, standards for formats, metadata, and interoperability need to be improved so users have a consistent experience across platforms.

The UA Libraries would like to share our experiences in expanding the services offered at the Information Desk of the Health Sciences Library, including providing new services such as technology lending and 3D Printing. This blitz session will highlight best practices and lessons learned, including workflows, training, and ensuring consistency in services in a multi-branch system. We will also share stories of how students have used these new services.
The VRC Project

Museus presentation
MuseUs is a mobile app and serious game that allows museum visitors to create their own exhibitions by matching cultural heritage exhibits with provided statements. It has been tested in living lab settings in Antwerp, Manchester, and planned for Paris. The app is built with technologies like PhoneGap and Drupal and integrates QR scanning. It aims to encourage learning and new perspectives on cultural heritage. Infrastructure needs include content, WiFi or cellular networks, and QR codes. Stats are collected and business models may involve in-app purchases, licensing fees, or revenue sharing. The goal is to engage visitors and test partnerships to expand the app.

Measures in SQL (SIGMOD 2024, Santiago, Chile)
SQL has attained widespread adoption, but Business Intelligence tools still use their own higher level languages based upon a multidimensional paradigm. Composable calculations are what is missing from SQL, and we propose a new kind of column, called a measure, that attaches a calculation to a table. Like regular tables, tables with measures are composable and closed when used in queries.
SQL-with-measures has the power, conciseness and reusability of multidimensional languages but retains SQL semantics. Measure invocations can be expanded in place to simple, clear SQL.
To define the evaluation semantics for measures, we introduce context-sensitive expressions (a way to evaluate multidimensional expressions that is consistent with existing SQL semantics), a concept called evaluation context, and several operations for setting and modifying the evaluation context.
