- 2. Currently in charge of supply chain functions with Vintun LLC, David F. Baucom previously served as a rear admiral (RADM) in the U.S. Navy. One aspect that RADM David F. Baucom valued about his position was the ability to travel around the world and explore cities throughout Europe. One of the destinations he enjoys most is Bucharest, Hungary, whose architecture reflects numerous historical periods. A recent Hungary Today article focused on representative buildings that were constructed between the World Wars, including a large building on the southwest side of Szell Kalman Square which was erected in the mid 1920s and features an eclectic style conceived of by architect Gyula Sandy.
- 3. Experiencing major damage during World War II, the 14,000- square-meter building was reoccupied in 1947 and served as the Hungarian Postal Services headquarters until 2008. Under private ownership until 2016, the building has now been acquired by the Hungarian National Bank and is undergoing a complete renovation. The building is slated for reopening in 2018. Another Budapest attraction is a street that involved the Budapest Public Works Council commissioning some of Europe’s finest Bauhaus architects to create a then modern cityscape. Based on a successful Stuttgart project, this 1931 Napraforgo Street project involved the creation of nearly two- dozen buildings and proved enormously successful. To this day, many Bauhaus-styled residences grace the Budapest city streets.
