Secure and Govern Integration between the Enterprise & the CloudCA API Management
Secure, govern and mediate integrations between enterprise applications and Cloud services
Overview
For Best Buy, the public Cloud provides a strategic way to dynamically scale consumer and partner-facing Web and API assets. The Cloud lets Best Buy accommodate peaks in demand without overbuilding, while isolating sensitive data from the public.
Best Buy also needs a consistent way to control what information is shared with applications in the Cloud, while simultaneously insulating development teams from the vagaries of security, management and mediation challenges that arise when implementing a hybrid Cloud solution.
This Webinar, presented by Best Buy, Amazon Web Services and Layer 7 Technologies, looks at a specific example of the Best Buy API Developer Portal and share best practices for security, governance and mediation of enterprise services with applications in the Cloud.
Managing Software from Development to Deployment in the CloudCloudBees
CloudBees' Harpreet Singh and Vivek Panday give an introduction to managing and deploying Java applications in the cloud. The presentation covers...
- What’s the cloud and what's a PaaS?
- Criteria choosing a PaaS
- Demonstration of taking applications to the PaaS

An Overview of Designing Microservices Based Applications on AWS - March 2017...Amazon Web Services
Microservices are an architectural approach to decompose complex applications into smaller, independent services. AWS customers benefit from increased agility, simplified scalability, resiliency, and faster deployments by migrating from monoliths to microservices based architecture.
In this session, we will provide an overview of the benefits and challenges of microservices, and share best practices for architecting and deploying microservices on AWS. We will dive into different approaches you can take to run microservices applications at scale and explore how services like Amazon ECS, AWS Lambda, and AWS X-Ray make it simpler to design and maintain these applications.
Learning Objectives:
1. Understand the fundamentals of the microservices architectural approach
2. Learn best practices for designing microservices on AWS
3. Learn the basics of Amazon EC2 Container Service, AWS Lambda, and AWS X-Ray
Building a Critical Communications Platform Using Serverless TechnologiesAmazon Web Services
By adopting serverless technologies, one organization managed to both accelerate its internal development process and improve operational scalability. In this tech talk, we present optimization strategies for AWS Lambda, followed by the inner workings of a critical communications platform built on serverless technologies. We also share best practices relevant to the development environment and architecture, along with the lessons learned.

Applications are the heart of enterprise IT. Everything that IT does is focused on delivering new functionality through applications. Unfortunately, for most enterprises, the application delivery process is tremendously inefficient, leading outcomes where more application development projects are canceled than are completed.

Hitchhiker's Guide to Open Source Cloud ComputingMark Hinkle
Imagine it’s eight o’clock on a Thursday morning and you awake to see a bulldozer out your window ready to plow over your data center. Normally you may wish to consult the Encyclopedia Galáctica to discern the best course of action but your copy is likely out of date. And while the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (HHGTTG) is a wholly remarkable book it doesn’t cover the nuances of cloud computing. That’s why you need the Hitchhiker’s Guide to Cloud Computing (HHGTCC) or at least to attend this talk understand the state of open source cloud computing. Specifically this talk will cover infrastructure-as-a-service, platform-as-a-service and developments in big data and how to more effectively take advantage of these technologies using open source software. Technologies that will be covered in this talk include Apache CloudStack, Chef, CloudFoundry, NoSQL, OpenStack, Puppet and many more.
Specific topics for discussion will include:
Infrastructure-as-a-Service - The Systems Cloud - Get a comparision of the open source cloud platforms including OpenStack, Apache CloudStack, Eucalyptus, OpenNebula
Platform-as-a-Service - The Developers Cloud - Find out what tools are availble to build portable auto-scaling applications including CloudFoundry, OpenShift, Stackato and more.
Data-as-a-Service - The Analytics Cloud - Want to figure out the who, what , where , when and why of big data ? You get an overview of open source NoSQL databases and technologies like MapReduce to help crunch massive data sets in the cloud.
Finally you'll get a overview of the tools that can help you really take advantage of the cloud? Want to auto-scale virtual machiens to serve millions of web pages or want to automate the configuration of cloud computing environments. You'll learn how to combine these tools to provide continous deployment systems that will help you earn DevOps cred in any data center.
[Finally, for those of you that are Douglas Adams fans please accept the deepest apologies for bad analogies to the HHGTTG.]

ABSTRACT: Take a look around, you might be surprised who is running servers in the cloud; you might be even more surprised about what they are running. Unfortunately, these people rarely if ever thought to tell the security teams, and that means big problems for us all. Securing servers in the cloud is different, very different, than in a traditional data center, but all the same risks are there. Lets start by understanding who is using the cloud, why it is so different, and what works and doesn't work from our typical security toolbox. Then lets try to solve some of those problems and come up with some best practices to help us and those we work with do what they need…securely.

- For advanced developers: master the skills to efficiently apply PowSyBl functionalities to your real-world scenarios.
"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
