4. Abstract In our review of the best clean energy technologies from around the world, our organization, the New Energy Congress, so far has found Raser's Geothermal technology to be foremost among the various geothermal players. Raser Technologies of Provo, Utah, USA, has developed a method of harnessing lower-heat input (200 - 300 degrees F) compared to usual flash-to-steam geothermal processes, which require the temperature to be at least 360ºF to be feasible. To accomplish this, Raser takes existing air conditioning technology and essentially run it in reverse. Instead of using electricity to turn a heat pump to cool a liquid, they run a warm liquid (proprietary composition) through a heat pump to generate electricity. This arrangement requires a minor modification in off-the-shelf industrial air conditioners which can be deployed in a modular manner, easily fitting the plant to the resource size -- and allowing for phased building of the plant to meet budget requirements. The plant can also be built rapidly. Their first 11-MW plant took less than a year from initial groundbreaking. The cost of electricity being sold from this base load plant is $78 per megawatt-hour. http://PESWiki.com Sterling D.
