Now in its fourth wave, SocialLife is Harris Interactive’s regular survey of UK social media use. We track interaction with 20+ social media sites ranging from the more established Facebook and Twitter to relative newcomers like Vine and Snapchat among a large, representative sample of online UK consumers.
Additionally, we investigate topical social media issues and measure how effectively some of the nation’s best loved brands are leveraging social media to engage with consumers.
In April and May 2014, we interviewed 5,500+ UK social media users aged 11+ to understand:
- Which sites we are familiar with, have accounts with and use actively/value most
- How often we use each site, when we use them most and why
- Which devices we use to connect to each site
- How much content we post
- Which sites are ‘on the up’ and which are on a downward curve
- How social media stacks up against traditional news sources
- How we use social media to complain to service providers
These results were first shared in July 2014.

Durch den Einsatz von Technologien wird versucht, das Leben in solchen Städten ökonomischer, ökologischer und lebenswerter zu gestalten (Stock, 2011). Ein wichtiger Aspekt moderner Städte ist ihre Vernetzung. Aber wie können Städte wie London, Paris, New York oder Wien sich den stetig wachsenden Anforderung durch die zunehmende Bevölkerung stellen? Auch hier wird auf die Vernetzung der Stadt durch digitale Netze gesetzt. Es wird häufig von der Entwicklung digitaler, ubiquitärer oder smarter Städte gesprochen, wenn es um die Weiterentwicklung von Städten oder um prototypische Städte der Wissensgesellschaft geht (Hollands, 2008, Shapiro, 2006). In diesem Beitrag beziehen wir uns auf die Vernetzung der Städte durch das Öffnen städtischer Daten, also Open Data auf Stadtebene, und dessen mobilen Einsatz im Alltag durch mobile Applikationen (Apps). Der Grundgedanke bezieht sich hierbei auf die Offenlegung des Potenzials einer smarten Stadt, welche selbst als Nährboden für Kreative, Entwickler und Anwender gilt (Apps for Smart Cities, 2012).

The InfoCenter is a learning platform of the Dept. of Information Science at the University of Düsseldorf, Germany. It consists of elements of face-to-face teaching, of multimedia mediation (text books, slides, classic texts, interactive videos, FAQ lists, video glossaries), e-Portfolios, Web 2.0 tools (wikis, weblogs, social networks, social bookmarking and folksonomies) and of the use of a learning management system (with learning units and tests). The platform was evaluated by its users (university students) by means of SERVQUAL. According to the evaluation, students are satisfied with the InfoCenter and are willing to use it for their exam preparation.Korpusbasierte Online-Dialoganalyse am Beispiel Twitter
Dieser Artikel diskutiert das Vorgehen und die Ergebnisse einer Dialoganalyse auf der Microbloggingplattform Twitter. Dialoge werden zum einen durch Metadaten aus der Twitter API und zum andern durch korpuslinguistische Annotation des Machinese Phrase Taggers von Connexor eruiert. Die Ergebnisse der Untersuchungen zeigen, dass die Metainformationen von Twitter Konversationen auffindbar machen können, jedoch sind zusätzliche Informationen nötig, um einen thematischen Dialog aus diesen Konversationen zu filtern. Für diese Problematik wird hier der Vergleich von Nominalphrasen als ein möglicher Lösungsansatz untersucht.
Dimensions of informational city research
Informational cities are prototypical cities of the knowledge society. According to Castells, in those cities space of flows (flows of money, power and information) tend to override spaces of place. Infrastructures of information and communication technology (ICT) and cognitive infrastructures have a high impact on urban development and economic growth. This conceptual article frames indicators which are able to mark the degree of “informativeness” of a city. The aim of our article is to provide a basis for further informational city research and to demonstrate a theoretical framework with the help of a case study (with the example of Singapore).

Des Weiteren wird eine Analyse von Politikerprofilen bezüglich ihrer Follower auf Twitter präsentiert mit dem Hinblick auf die tatsächlich zu erreichenden potenziellen Wähler.

Rapidly rising numbers of users on the micro-blogging site Twitter also attract many companies and politicians on this platform to reach potential customers or voters. But how they could reach their target group on Twitter? In this article, an analysis of the user behaviour of companies and politicians will be presented and the strategies on Twitter which proved successful will be described. In addition, an analysis of profiles of politicians presented their follower on Twitter with respect to the potential to actually reach voters.
