This document provides an introduction to students with hearing and vision impairments for a course on exceptionalities. It defines hearing impairment, deafness, and vision impairment. It provides prevalence data showing hearing impairments affect 0.11% of students and 1.2% of those in special education, while vision impairments affect 0.04% and 0.4% respectively. Causes and anatomy are briefly mentioned but not the focus. Sign language is discussed as a true language that makes students who sign bilingual. Instructional considerations for both hearing and vision impairments are outlined.
