Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
3. Basic Plant Care
It is necessary to understand that each plant has it’s own needs in order to survive.
When planting, always consider the following things:
- The type of soil
- The depth that the seed should be planted
- How much sunlight and water it needs
Also, it is important to remember that repotting a plant will boost it’s confidence, which will in
turn make it flourish. This process usually changes the plant’s diet, allowing it to either consume
more or less then it’s usual intake. Sunlight and water dosages can change as well. This is very
important to note when considering repotting a plant.
Habitat also greatly affects a plant, which is why some of them have relocated themselves to
better suit their needs. Sometimes, they can be disruptive to other plants who are native to the
area, but other times its best for the foreign plant to relocate to an area that is appropriate to
what they need.

23. Challenges in Herbology
The Gardening Effect
To simplify the understanding plants and the work of a Herbologist, which has only recently
been deemed as a pretty lame profession in the last 100 years. Everything in those days had to be
proven by seeing instead of believing, which in turn was adapted by all muggles. This effected
the natural world and anything unexplainable in it. Wizards then decided that anything natural or
unexplainable was deemed a ‘muggle” thing. This included the work of Herbologists alike.
To this day, the Gardening Effect creates funding problems for these Herbologists who were
trying to study natural things. This has proved to be a challenge for the progress of understanding
plants due to the lack of money for research centres.
It is also known that those who start out as a Herbologist often turn to potions or healing as an
alternative as it is much less challenging to do their jobs.
24. Challenges in HerbologyContinued…
Alien Species
Another challenge that most Herbologists face is something called alien species where invasive,
non-native plants have started to grow where they shouldn’t be. This can cause a huge
disruption in the existing ecosystem where the native plants thrive.
The process for a plant to grow in a foreign territory is as follows:
- The plant will relocate to the new territory
- The plant will then adapt to it’s new environment
- The plant then takes over it’s new environment, growing in such numbers
that the original ecosystem cannot handle.
These alien plants use up a ton of resources, draining the native plants from their required
nutrients. The most common problem is with water which can result in the ground being very
dry when it begins to invade. It can cause extinction of the native plants due to it draining any
vitalities that they need to grow, which also can result in fires and floods. This can be detrimental
to rare and endangered plants that can only be found in certain territories.
