Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are two conditions caused by excessive heat exposure. Heat exhaustion involves heavy sweating but a relatively lower body temperature around 100 degrees Fahrenheit, while heat stroke involves a body temperature over 104 degrees and the absence of sweating. Left untreated, heat stroke can cause damage to the brain, heart, kidneys and muscles and may even lead to death. Global warming is increasing the risks of heat-related illnesses due to rising average temperatures worldwide.
