The heart is a muscular organ located in the thoracic cavity, between the lungs and behind the sternum. It consists of four chambers (right atrium, left atrium, right ventricle, left ventricle) and valves (tricuspid and bicuspid) that manage the flow of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood. The pericardium is a protective double-layered membrane that encases the heart, safeguarding it from infections and reducing friction during beats.
