1. Introduction of HIV and AIDS 
• HIV (the human immunodeficiency virus) destroys 
the immune system. So it is impossible for the body 
to fight with disease or illnesses. 
• AIDS ( acquired immune deficiency syndrome) is the 
last phase in HIV disease , when the body is unable 
to fight a disease or infection.
Someone who is HIV positive may 
appear to be healthy from 10 years of 
longer before the symptoms of AIDS 
develop.
2. How HIV is Transmitted!!! 
HIV is spread by: 
Blood, semen , or vaginal fluids from infected person enter 
someone else’s body. 
Sexual contact without condom 
Sharing needles (primarily for drug injection) with 
someone who is infected. 
Through transfusions of infected blood or blood 
clotting factors.
3. Mother-to-child transmission 
 A woman with HIV can pass HIV to her child: 
 During pregnancy 
 During childbirth 
 Through breastfeeding

 The risk of mother-to-child transmission of HIV is low when: 
Women with HIV receive HIV medicine during pregnancy and 
childbirth. 
Babies born to women with HIV receive HIV medicines for 6 weeks

 Eating food that has been pre-chewed by an HIV-infected 
person. 
 Being bitten by a person with HIV. There is no risk of 
transmission if the skin is not broken.

 Deep, open-mouth kissing. HIV is not spread through 
saliva. Transmission through kissing alone is extremely
