Social and Therapeutic Horticulture in the UK: The Growing Together StudyBenBeckers
The document summarizes a study on social and therapeutic horticulture (STH) projects in the UK. The study surveyed over 800 active STH projects and conducted in-depth case studies of 25 projects. It found that STH projects provide benefits for vulnerable groups, including those with mental illness or learning disabilities. STH activities give participants a daily structure and sense of purpose through gardening. Projects help promote social inclusion and many clients spend significant time, about 5 hours, multiple days a week engaged in the activities. However, few clients directly transition to paid employment from their involvement in STH projects.
This document summarizes a research poster presentation that compared recommended practice guidelines for healthcare of the homeless to the current health status of homeless families in St. Paul, Minnesota. 15 homeless caregivers participated in a photovoice assessment to document factors affecting their health related to access to care, basic needs, and social support. The results were shared at a community forum to increase awareness and promote dialogue. Most participants reported having health insurance but facing barriers like costs and transportation. All had access to food but lacked nutritional options. While safety concerns existed, most spent nights at shelters rather than on the street. The forum increased community awareness of homeless needs and the guidelines.
The document describes the development of a new measure called the Participation and Environment Measure for Children and Youth (PEM-CY). It is being developed to assess children and youth's participation in activities at home, school, and in the community, as well as the environmental factors that support or hinder participation. The measure is being designed for feasibility in population-level research through a parent-report survey. It examines both participation and environment within the same instrument across multiple settings.
This document describes the rationale and design of the CAPABLE randomized controlled trial. The trial aims to test whether an interdisciplinary intervention including a nurse, occupational therapist, and handyman can reduce disability among low-income older adults compared to an attention control group. The intervention addresses both personal and environmental risk factors for disability over 10 home visits in 4 months. The primary outcome is decreased disability in self-care activities. Secondary outcomes include sustained decreases in disability and improvements in mobility, health-related quality of life, and healthcare utilization. The trial plans to enroll 300 participants and follow them for 52 weeks to assess short and long-term impacts.
- This document proposes a community-based participatory research project in Cleveland's Central neighborhood to address barriers to healthy food access and cooking education.
- The project will use CBPR principles to form a community advisory board who will lead all phases of the research and intervention design. Surveys, interviews, photovoice, and focus groups will assess food access and design an appropriate cooking education program.
- The 18-month project will have two phases - developing partnerships and needs assessment in the first year, then implementing and evaluating the cooking education program in the second year. Community members will be hired and trained to lead data collection, analysis, and program implementation.
This document summarizes several funded projects from the Pathways to Health Equity for Aboriginal Peoples initiative. It describes 3 projects that received funding: 1) to study the implementation and cultural adaptation of a mental health promotion program for First Nations communities, 2) to develop a vision for culturally relevant housing from the perspectives of two Dene First Nations in Manitoba, and 3) to inform a tuberculosis strategy for First Nations communities by using data from a previous study on TB transmission in prairie provinces. It also provides information on additional funding opportunities through Applied Public Health Chairs and Partners for Engagement and Knowledge Exchange to support Aboriginal health research.

Strategies to End Homelessness: Current Approaches to EvaluationTheHomelessHub
The purpose of this paper is to provide a summary of research on interventions that aim to end or reduce homelessness. Our specific goals were to gain an understanding of the different populations for whom interventions have been tested and the type of interventions evaluated, as well as to create an inventory of the indicators used to assess the effectiveness of interventions. We provide an overview of the methodology used to gather research on strategies to end homelessness. In the findings, we review the types of interventions evaluated, highlight the populations studied, and summarize the indicators of effectiveness used in the evaluations. Finally, we discuss the findings of this review in relation to current and future research on homeless interventions.
COMMUNITY BASED PARTICIPATORY RESEARCH A HISTORICAL PERESPECTIVE (1)DR.MANZOOR YETOO
This document summarizes a report on community-based participatory research (CBPR). It discusses CBPR approaches, levels of community involvement in different aspects of the research process (e.g. setting priorities, study design), and funding considerations. The report recommends including academic and CBPR methodology experts as well as community representatives on review panels to evaluate CBPR grant proposals. It also stresses the need to effectively engage community representatives in the review process.
The document discusses the ethical dilemma of needle exchange programs (NEP). NEPs aim to decrease disease transmission among intravenous drug users (PWID) by providing clean needles. However, some argue NEPs increase drug use and disease. The document outlines arguments on both sides and notes the first NEP began in the 1980s in response to the AIDS epidemic. It discusses ethical principles like non-maleficence and virtues/vices involved. While NEPs aim to help PWID safely, the effectiveness of these programs remains an ongoing debate.
This document provides an agenda for a two-day conference at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health on applying a public health approach to incarceration issues in the United States. The conference will feature keynote speakers, panels on topics like public health and policy, research, education, and partnerships. It aims to catalyze change by considering how to reduce contact with the criminal justice system and mitigate the harmful effects of incarceration through public health strategies.
COMMUNITY BASED PARTICIPATORY RESEARCH A HISTORICAL PERESPECTIVEDR.MANZOOR YETOO
This document provides an overview of community-based participatory research (CBPR) based on a review of 60 studies. Some key points:
- CBPR aims to increase the value of research for both researchers and the community through collaborative participation in all stages of the research process.
- Involvement varied across studies but many involved communities in setting priorities, developing measures, and interpreting results. Few reported on community involvement in publishing findings.
- 30 studies included interventions while 30 were non-interventional. Interventions aimed to change behaviors, norms, policies or environments.
- Positive health outcomes were found more consistently in higher quality research designs, showing the importance of rigorous methods in CBPR.
The document outlines the pre-screening tasks for a health impact assessment of a proposed expansion of coal seam gas extraction in Camden, NSW. It recommends forming a steering committee representing stakeholders to guide the HIA process. The screening identified issues such as stress on the community, health inequities, and impacts on water and air quality from construction and operations. The scope of the HIA would involve collecting demographic data, consulting the community through surveys and meetings, and monitoring air and water for potential impacts on health.
This document summarizes two studies on the role of agricultural advisors in farmers' adoption of conservation practices. The first study interviewed 27 Midwestern crop advisors and found they saw both benefits and barriers to conservation practices. Advisors said short-term profits, resistance to change, and lack of evidence were barriers. The second study surveyed farmers in Michigan and found those using advisors were more open to conservation. It showed advisors could influence practice adoption if they provided field-specific conservation information and advice. Overall, the studies suggest advisors may need more support and knowledge to effectively promote conservation.

Health advocacy Ethical consideration.pdfBrian712019
This document discusses several ethical considerations related to healthcare for an aging population. It notes that as the proportion of older adults increases, caring for this population will be one of the greatest challenges facing healthcare. Limited resources require difficult decisions around allocating funds and determining expenditures for end-of-life care. The document also examines the potential economic consequences of failing to adapt policies for an aging population and the ethical dilemmas that could arise. Nurses must consider standards like respecting patient autonomy and advocating for those unable to speak for themselves when making recommendations around resource allocation and care for older adults.
This systematic review analyzed 5 case-control studies to determine if bicycle helmets reduce head, brain, and facial injuries. The studies found that helmets provide a 63-88% reduction in the risk of head, brain, and severe brain injuries for bicyclists of all ages. Helmets also provide a 65-88% reduction in the risk of facial injuries. The review concludes that bicycle helmets effectively reduce injuries to the head and face for bicyclists involved in crashes or falls.
This document provides an overview of assignments for the HCS 535 course, including:
- Weekly individual papers and presentations on topics like population health, public health agencies, and developing a three-part health campaign.
- Two papers or presentations are provided for most assignments to give students additional practice and feedback.
- Assignments involve analyzing population health data, assessing communities and issues, planning and implementing health campaigns, and recommending approaches to improve population health.
- Detailed instructions, grading criteria, and topic resources are provided for each assignment to guide students' work.

Week 9 Assignment
Continue on with building your final application due in week 10. You will submit one cogent paper that combines the previous two applications (Parts One and Two) from weeks 4 and 7, plus the new material mentioned in the week 8 application
Application: Developing a Health Advocacy Campaign
To be an effective advocate and to develop a successful health advocacy campaign, you must have a clear idea of the goals of your campaign program and be able to communicate those goals to others. In addition, it is the nature of nurses to want to help, but it is important to make sure that the vision you develop is manageable in size and scope. By researching what others have done, you will better appreciate what can realistically be accomplished. It is also wise to determine if others have similar goals and to work with these people to form strategic partnerships. If you begin your planning with a strong idea of your resources, assets, and capabilities, you will be much more likely to succeed and truly make a difference with those you hope to help.
You will develop a 10- to 12-page paper that outlines a health advocacy campaign designed to promote policies to improve the health of a population of your choice. This week, you will establish the framework for your campaign by identifying a population health concern of interest to you. You will then provide an overview of how you would approach advocating for this issue.
-In Week 9, you will consider legal and regulatory factors that have an impact on the issue and finally, in Week 10, you will identify ethical concerns that you could face as an advocate.
Specific details for each aspect of this paper are provided each week.
This paper will serve as the Portfolio Application for the course.
Before you begin, review the complete Assignment.
This week, begin developing your health advocacy campaign by focusing on the following:

RESEARCH PROPOSAL
Why Does African American Mothers Use More Intense Disciplinary Practice Than African American Fathers?
Both paternal and maternal parent usually apply several disciplinary methods such as restriction and physical punishments to their children to enhance ethical behaviors. However, there are factors such as personal perspective, authoritarian levels, culture, permissiveness, emotional factors, ethnicity, and family conflict that influence and impact how either of the two parents fosters discipline in a given family (Ilie, 2017). Due to changes in different areas such as culture, economic status, and government regulation policies parenting roles and disciplinary actions have gradually changed. Additionally to the changes, Africa American parents have the extra role for preparing their children to survive and thrive in the environment that, for a long time, has been characterized by unfair and hostile conditions (O’Rourke, 2017).
This article is an annotated bibliography focus on five sources for a research proposal about different factors/ why maternal Africa American disciplinary practices are more intense as compared to paternal disciplinary practices. This is a unique area of study that will provide additional information on parenting discipline-oriented students that already exists.
The research questions include find out the factors that promote maternal parenting and foster for more disciplinary practices, what external changes or social changes that lead to intense maternal disciplinary practices and environmental change that influence parenting roles in the Africa American society.
The research hypothesis will include maternal disciplinary practice are more intense than paternal disciplinary practice in an Africa American community. The null hypothesis for this research will include parental disciplinary practices are more intense than maternal disciplinary practices rationale (Ganeshpurkar et al., 2018).
The total population of black Americans in the U.S in 2017 was 41.4million citizens representing 13.4% of the total U.S population ("U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts," 2019). Give this kind to a considerable community and their life under a sophisticated environment. This influences how they speed their daily life and a clear understanding of their parenting practices such as discipline children is a crucial factor for sociology and psychology (Perkins-Mangulabnan & Flynn, n.d). This research will provide counselors and psychologist with essential information that help to implement non-judgment suggestion during counseling and hence improve their efficiency in their practices.

Community Health Roles. Due by Day 7. Complete The Community
Health Roles worksheet located in your online classroom.
(Instructions are also on the first two pages of the worksheet)
Part I:
Start by reviewing the articles on quasi-government and non-
governmental agencies in your REQUIRED course materials. Then:
· Provide solid definitions of governmental agencies, quasi-
government, non-government agencies. Please do not copy your
10. definitions from a dictionary or any source. You must explain these in
your own words. Copying and/or direct quoting will result in 0 points
on this portion of your assignment.
· Explain the difference between public health and medical
services.
Part II:
INSTRUCTIONS: Complete the chart below. In each box in column 1,
you need to select four public health concerns from the list below.
(You might want to review information on some of the suggested
health topics in Chapters 5, 6, 7, and 9 in your textbook, listed in
RECOMMENDED course materials.) Your task is to find health-
related organizations/agencies and a link to their website that address
these issues at three distinct levels:
1. Governmental Agencies (column B)
2. Quasi-Government Agencies (column C)
3. Non-Governmental Agencies (column D).
Then, in column E, write in one or two sentences explaining why this
issue is a public or community health concern. Remember that
public/community health focuses on populations, not individuals.
Think back to your explanation in Part II outlining the differences
between public health medical services. You are required to review
scholarly research to determine the role of public health as it relates
to these issues. Each description MUST include a citation.
Please note that your description of the importance to public health
should not be rooted in the individual medical health care. Public
health focuses on populations, not individual care. See the example
below to help you with your worksheet responses.
Pick 4 from this list:
Premature infants Alzheimer’s disease
Injury and violence
prevention
Air pollution
Water pollution Diabetes
Food safety
Sexually Transmitted
Diseases
Homelessness Emergency

Significant Contributions to Public Health - Part I
17. For your final project, you will be researching an individual and their
contribution to community and public health. Because of the size of
this project, you will be doing the first part of this project in Week 3
then adding the final portion in Week 5. You have the option of
writing a paper or putting together a presentation. Details are below
the outline. Overall, you will be researching an historical figure in the
public health world, their contribution to public health, and how their
work helped shape the public health system. Furthermore, you will be
analyzing how their contribution from the past continues to contribute
to today’s public health system and how it might guide future work
within the industry.
Follow this outline to help formulate your paper or presentation:
ACTION: Select one of the historical figures and their associated
public health topic
· Margaret Higgins Sanger/Reproductive health
· Rachel Carson/Environmental health
· Franklin D. Roosevelt/Health care administration
· John Snow/Communicable and infectious disease
· Luther T. Terry/Smoking
· W. E. B. DuBois/Social determinants of health
· Larry Kramer/Health activism
· An individual of your own choice:
·
· YOU MUST OBTAIN INSTRUCTOR APPROVAL IN
ADVANCE
ACTION: Research the individual’s background
· GRADED ELEMENT:Describe your selected person’s
biographical background (i.e. experience).
· HELP:This can include resume elements such as birthdate,
location, education, and brief statement of their contribution to public
health. (Reminder: biographical information can be easily
plagiarized. Please do not copy from your biographical websites.
Paraphrase and/or quote and cite everything according to APA.)
ACTION: Research the barriers and issue of the time
18. · GRADED ELEMENT:Analyze the climate of the time period
in terms of political, socioeconomic, environmental and technological
context in which this person worked
· HELP:Think about whether this person was up against
resistance or was their work welcomed.[For example, if you were
writing on Abraham Lincoln and the abolition of slavery, you would
note that slavery was prevalent and accepted at the time and the
change was welcomed by some and rejected by others]
· GRADED ELEMENT:Examine the personal beliefs of your
person that prompted this work.
· HELP:You are basically addressing the question: “Why did
this person get involved with the issue at the time?” [In continuing
the Lincoln example above, you would note that black people were
considered property, not people; yet Lincoln believed everyone had
equal rights regardless of skin color].
ACTION: Think about how this person overcame the barriers and
issues
· GRADED ELEMENT:Examine how this individual overcame
and/or confronted any adversities to succeed in his/her task
· HELP:Questions to consider: What did the person specifically
do? Did they have any allies? How did their actions succeed/fail?
ACTION: Think about the importance of the contribution to
community/public health at the time
· GRADED ELEMENT:Describe the final outcome of this
individual’s contribution to community and/or public health
· HELP:Think about this question: What occurred as a result of
this person’s action?
· GRADED ELEMENT:Explain what his/her contribution did
for overall community and/or public health at the time
· HELP:Think about this question: What was the purpose for the
community and/or nation?[In the Lincoln example, the explanation
would involve a national recognition of human rights of all people,
regardless of skin color]
· GRADED ELEMENT: Explain why this contribution was so
important at that particular point in history
19. · HELP:Think about this question: What made this important for
our nation?[In the Lincoln example, you would answer the question:
Why was it so important that Lincoln freed the slaves?]
You have a choice of which format you wish to present your findings:
Format 1: Written Paper
· Must be at least 4 pages in length (not including title and
reference pages) and formatted according to APA style as outlined in
the Ashford Writing Center.
· Must include a separate title page with the following:
· Title of paper
· Students name
· Course name and number
· Instructor’s name
· Date submitted
· Must use at least four scholarly sources (one of those may be
the course text).
· Must document all sources in APA style as outlined in the
Ashford Writing Center.

HCA 415 Week 4 Assignment Advocating
for Public Health Policy
For more classes visit
www.snaptutorial.com
23. Advocating for Public Health Policy. Imagine that you have been
chosen to represent a public health advocacy group as they begin a
campaign to get legislation related to a health issue passed in your
state legislature. You have been tasked with the role of presenting a
proposed policy to the legislature and advocating that the legislature
vote for the policy. You have been told that you will have 10 minutes
to present to the legislature. Your presentation should be informative,
but also persuasive. The legislature will need to make a decision
about whether or not to vote for the policy based on your
presentation. Your presentation should be structured exactly as if you
were “live” in front of the legislature advocating for them to adopt
the policy you are proposing.
For your assignment, you will need to select a public health topic of
interest to you (you are encouraged to choose one related to your
academic major or intended field of work) and a public health policy
related to addressing the topic. You may select an actual proposed
policy or create one that you think would effectively address the topic.
Your presentation should provide enough information about the topic
and the proposed policy that a reasonably educated legislator should
be able to make an informed decision. Be sure to consider the various
questions that a legislator might have about the issue and proposed
policy, such as long-term costs and benefits, potential effects on
business and industry (especially those that support politicians’
campaigns), and how the policy will support the health and
productivity of state residents.
For this assignment, you should create an approximately 10 minute
presentation* that addresses each of the following points:
Discuss the public health issue that your proposed policy is
intended to address. Questions to consider:
o Who does this health issue affect?
o What is the impact of this health issue on the community?
o Why does this health issue need to be addressed?
Explain the proposed public health policy. Questions to
consider:
o Who will be affected by this policy?
o How will this policy address the health issue?
24. o What will change by enacting this policy?
Evaluate the impacts of the proposed policy. Questions to
consider:
o What are the costs and benefits of the policy?
o What are the risks of enacting or notenacting the policy?
o How will the lives of people who are affected by the health issue
change if this policy is enacted?
Create an influential presentation that affects voting behaviors
of legislators. Questions to consider:
o What information about this policy would potentially affect the
voting behavior of legislators from across the political spectrum (eg.
conservative, moderate, liberal, progressive; particularly those who
might not support the policy based on political orientation)?
o What are the most important messages that legislators need to
hear about this policy?
o How would the constituents of the legislators voting for this policy
feel about this policy and a legislator who votes for it?
o What information would a legislator need to “sell” the policy to
consitutents who were perhaps not in favor of adopting the policy?

Allocating Public Health Resources
Imagine that you are standing on the bank of a river and injured
people start floating down the river towards you. There is no end to
the floating people…they just keep coming and coming. You are alone
and you do not have cell service to phone for back up. What do you
do? In your discussion post, discuss what type of assistance you
would want to provide. Explain where you think it would be best to
focus your energy assisting (ie. should you stay where you are and
pull people out of the river, or should you go upstream to find out why
injured people are ending up in the river?) Determine what
proportion of assistance should go to aiding injured people versus
preventing the cause of the injuries in the first place. Justify your
reasoning for why you would allocate your resources that way. (There
is no right or wrong answer to this; it is a matter of determining the
priorities between treatment vs. prevention.)

going to do about it?
For more classes visit
www.snaptutorial.com
Our DQ is Based on State Texas, South Carolina
What are YOU going to do about it? In the past weeks, you have
examined and explored the challenges and issues facing delivery of
29. public health services in a given community and across the nation.
The goal of public health is to prevent disease and promote health.
To that end, take a moment to review your own communities health
needs through a purview of current events, your own setting by
informally interviewing public health professionals, or reviewing
national databases like the ones listed below:
America’s Health Rankings. (2015). Retrieved from
http://www.americashealthrankings.org/ The Commonwealth Fund.
(2015). Overall Ranking, 2014. Retrieved from
http://datacenter.commonwealthfund.org/#ind=1/sc=1
For this discussion, you are asked to do the following:
1. Describe a significanat health issue in your community or state.
2. Compare its significance to the national priorities of Healthy
People 2020 goals (is it a national priority or just one found in your
state/community).
3. Explain what type of effort it will take to fully address it
(leadership skills, financing, organizational buy-in, stakeholders,
perceptions, barriers)
4. Evaluate the efforts YOU can take to address this issue. (As a
public health practitioner, what is YOUR role such as: Will you
develop, lead or be part of a public health program to address the
issue? Will you work on financing, organizational buy-in,
stakeholders...what are you going to do to address this concern?)

feedback given to you from Week 3. Then, make the necessary
revisions to Part I of this project. Then, you will be adding the second
half to your project.
