Hasankeyf is an ancient city located in southeastern Turkey along the Tigris River, known as the "city of caves" due to its thousands of cave dwellings carved into rock cliffs. It has great historical and cultural significance due to numerous historical sites like mosques, mausoleums, and a citadel dating back to Ayyubid rule. However, it is now at risk of being completely submerged by the waters of the nearby Ilısu Dam project, which threatens to damage or destroy much of Hasankeyf's cultural heritage.
