The handloom sector is an important part of Bangladesh's history, culture and economy. It is one of the oldest cottage industries in the country, employing over 1.5 million people directly and indirectly. There are over 500,000 handlooms operated across the country, producing a variety of products, with saris being the most popular. The Bangladesh Handloom Board works to support weavers through job training, technical assistance, marketing support, and financial aid and loans.
