Small and medium businesses want to provide delivery services to customers but the high costs of ownership and maintenance prevent many from starting such services. HandMe is an online platform that connects small businesses to customers and allows them to competitively offer delivery. It uses an Android app for shops to see orders and schedule deliveries, SMS notifications to inform delivery agents about pickups and drop offs, and a customer app for ordering and tracking. HandMe aims to fill the gap for delivery services in Kochi, which lacks major players but has an educated population and established auto services.

Abstract: Field programmable gate arrays (FPGA) are extensively used for rapid prototyping in embedded system applications. While hardware acceleration can be done via specialized processors like a Graphical Processing Unit (GPU), they can also be accomplished with FPGAs for more specialized scenarios. GPUs essentially consist of massively parallel cores and have high memory bandwidth; FPGAs, on the other hand, provide flexibility in terms of customizable I/O and computational resources. In this paper, we explore the usage of GPUs and FPGAs as cryptographic co-processors in streaming dataflow systems with huge rate of data inhalation. Two classic lightweight encryption algorithms, Tiny Encryption Algorithm (TEA) and Extended Tiny Encryption Algorithm (XTEA), are targeted for implementation on GPUs and FPGAs. The GPU implementations of TEA and XTEA in this study depict a maximum speedup of 13x over CPU based implementation. The pipelined FPGA implementation is able to realize a throughput of 6-9x more than the GPU for small plaintext sizes.

Disruptions on Road Networks: Impact on traffic characteristics
This document summarizes a study that investigated the impact of short-term disruptions on traffic characteristics. The study analyzed travel time and traffic volume data from five pairs of parallel routes during peak periods, comparing scenarios with and without incidents. Key findings were that average travel times remained similar, but travel time volatility increased under incident conditions. Traffic volumes shifted slightly between routes when incidents occurred, indicating adaptive route choice behavior. The study highlights the need for transport models to account for disrupted traffic conditions and adaptive user equilibrium.

In this presentation, pygmyTITAN's Nikola Nenadic describes electrical and mechanical specifications of the new open architecture industrial computer-on-module standard based on MIPI interfaces. The idea behind developing such a specification is to make consumer mobile technology available to embedded product designers in other industries, while taking the best from both worlds. It is author’s opinion that existence of MIPI computer-on-module platforms will foster proliferation of mobile technology in a number of industrial sectors, the same way current industrial computer module form factors did for PC technology.

Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity server
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).
