The document describes a school project about the painting "Halla" by Hugo Simberg. Students analyzed the painting and created their own versions. Younger students painted backgrounds and cut out Halla figures to glue on. The class researched Simberg and the concept of Halla, creating posters. 2. Halla paintings First we took a sight on Hugo Simbergs painting. We discussed about painting through following questions: What is in the painting? Who is in the painting? What kind of place is in the painting? What colors are used in the painting?

3. After discuss we started to do our own Halla-replicas. We used a certain rectacle-scaleign system and the goal was to do an enlargement replica. First we did sketching work by using only pencils. The coloring was made using the aquarelle crayons.

6. Pre-school children did their own Hallas too. Here they are talking about the painting.

7. They painted the background with aquarelle colors and drew the Halla on another paper and then cut it and glued it to the background. And on the right: one Halla on the blackboard.

9. Research work and information seeking The third part of this Halla- project was to get more about the artist, his other works and halla as a phenomenon. We used computers and internet to seek all the information wanted. This part was done in small groups. Each group had a task to create a poster as product of this research work. There were three questions to answer: Who was Hugo Simberg? What has he done? What is halla (phenomenon)?

10. Halla stories We used the Halla- painting as a basis on story telling and writing. Again we first discussed about painting using following questions: Who is in the picture? Is the human figure in the painting he or she? What does he/she do? Why? What is happening or what has happened in the picture? Why the painting is named Halla? What is halla? We wrote short stories inspired by Halla. Stories were mend to be fictional so the own imagination was needed.

11. ONE STORY OF HALLA Once in a farm, the harvest was done. It was summer time. The owners lived in a old log house. They had big fields of hay and lots of animals. One night the people of the house were already sleeping. Then came Halla to pay a visit. It came and sat down on a pile of rye. The it started to blow halla to the fields. It stayed there almost the whole night! The it went to the other fields to blow halla. In the morning the lady of the house went to feed their chicken. Then she realized that all the fields were covered with halla. Then she quickly fed the chicken and ran to the log house and said to her husband to come see the fields. And then they just stood there wondering how is this possible. Then they saw foot prints on the ground and knew that Halla had been there.
