 In India 'halal' may be a word one relates with meat and meat
products, but a rising number of personal care brands in the
country are lining up for halal certification for their products,
which would mean they are free of any animal derivatives,
chemicals and alcohol.
Muslim Population is increasing at 1.84%
The Muslim population in 2016 is 2.14 Billion & 2017 is
= 2.18 Billion
 Global Halal products market is estimated at US$2.3
trillion excluding Islamic banking.
 If we include service sectors for the Halal market, the
potential size of total market is ASTRONOMICAL…

 Halal is anArabic word for 'that which is lawful or permitted'
 The word halal is a universal tenet and if a product is halal certified, it means it doesn't
contain alcohol, animal ingredients and harsh chemicals and is not tested on animals.
 Awareness and interest in Halal products has increase tremendously among
Muslim and Non-Muslims as well.
 Huge purchasing power among Non-Muslim countries.

 Ecotrail Personal Care, a start-up by sisters Mauli and GrishmaTeli, is the only
company in India that makes halal cosmetics.
 They are probably the first entrepreneurs who have forayed into the niche segment of
halal cosmetics in India.
 They believe halal cosmetics are good not only for Muslims but also for whoever wants
to avoid chemical-ridden products and seeks healthy living.
 So, it gives people the reassurance that it is pure and natural," says MauliTeli, CEO &
managing partner of Ecotrail Personal Care, insisting that halal is for everyone.
 It probably helped that the sisters are vegetarian and from the Jain community, which
is forbidden from using some products -- tenets that MauliTeli says resemble the halal
concept to some extent.

 The myriad of non-halal ingredients such as pig fat, other animal
derived ingredients such as lanolin, keratin, gelatin, as well as alcohol,
and harsh chemicals like sulfates and parabens goes into many popular
brand cosmetics available in the market.
 Often the absence of an alternative restricts usage or consumer’s use
such products selectively.
 Halal cosmetics products are not merely natural but also pure and
hygienically manufactured, vegan and animal cruelty free.
