The hair designer/stylist in performing arts analyzes scripts and researches hairstyles appropriate to the era and characters. They work with the director and costume designer to sketch and develop hairstyles for each character. The hair designer must consider any major changes to a character's appearance, such as cutting or coloring hair, and may need to create wigs or other hair pieces. To work as a hair designer/stylist in theatre requires an associate's degree in cosmetology as well as qualifications to cut, style, wash, dry, and color hair.
