Hades was the ancient Greek god of the underworld who ruled over the dead and maintained balance in the underworld. As the son of the Titans, he abducted Persephone to be his wife and ruled the underworld with her. He was portrayed as passive rather than evil and punished those who tried to cheat death or cross him.
