UNEV +The Children’s Psychological Heatlh Center • Frandy Daniels, M.A., collected data across 7 refugee camps of 300,00 residents. • 6,000 minor children living in the camps had allegedly been raped. • Dr. Gilbert Klinman traveled to Haiti to create a large scale reflective social network process to begin healing. • The doctors encouraged the girls to share their stories on camera so the outside world would bear witness to the trauma. • The doctors provided brief therapy workbooks, cell phones equipped with cameras (to document illegal activity), legal aid, and safe houses. • Caring adults helped children to narrate and make meaning of the painful experience.
- 6. This is what happened • Rapes fell to ZERO. • 6,175 arrest warrants were issued. • 51 of the alleged rapists are now in jail. • There's a new feeling among these camps -- Empowerment.
