Ezekiel was taken into exile in Babylon in 597 BC along with Jehoiachin. Like Daniel before him, Ezekiel followed the laws of Moses, including dietary laws. His wife died while in exile and he was not allowed to mourn for her. Ezekiel's prophecies began in 592 BC and continued until 571 BC, covering over 20 years. His messages were delivered both before and after the destruction of Jerusalem in 586 BC. He addressed all Israel but particularly the exiles, as many still listened to false prophets and engaged in idol worship. A early vision was intended to demonstrate God's supremacy and overwhelm Ezekiel, showing that all things originate from God.

The Sator Square is a 5x5 word square found in Pompeii that uses Latin words that can be read in different directions. The words are Sator, Arepo, Tenet, Opera, and Rotas. Sator means sower or creator, referring to a divine creator, important in Freemasonry. Arepo possibly refers to crawling towards, reflecting life's journey from birth to death, a Masonic concept. Precept means to hold or understand, reflecting Masonic ideals of comprehending ceremonies and mysteries. The Sator Square could thus be seen and used by Freemasons due to references important in Masonic philosophy.
