Guyana is a country located on the northern coast of South America between Venezuela and Suriname. It has a tropical climate with two rainy seasons and mountainous regions including the Pakaraima Mountains which contain Mount Roraima. The population is around 744,768 with the largest ethnic groups being East Indian, Black, and Mixed descendants. Guyana has a history of Dutch and British colonial rule and slavery, and became independent in 1966. It continues to have racial and territorial disputes with neighboring countries.
