- 17. BIRKELAND CURRENTS & CYLINDERS Plasma Cosmology is fundamentally based on the idea of a web of Birkeland Currents pervading the universe. Birkeland currents are twisted pairs of plasma flows that are sheathed in a double plasma layer. - 18. THE PLASMA MODEL V THE STANDARD MODEL PLASMA STANDARD Regular three dimensional space. Working towards a unified theory based on the electromagnetic force. There may be only one force as the force of gravity may be derived from the electromagnetic force. Scales from small to large and hence some of its particulars can be examined by experiment. Has a good record of prediction. Four dimensional space-time No possibility of a unified theory because quantum mechanics and astrophysics cannot agree. There are four universal forces. (Strong, Weak, Electromagnetic, Gravity). Two are subatomic and do not apply outside the atom. Does not scale down, hence cannot be tested in the laboratory. Has a poor record of prediction.
- 19. THE HERTZSPRUNG-RUSSELL GRAPH Absolute Magnitude is rated against a standard distance - it roughly corresponds to Luminosity. The Spectral Class roughly corresponds to Absolute Temperature. The graph demonstrates a plethora of stars at every size (down to the size of Jupiter) and up to well over 1000 times the size of the Sun. When bodies become large they give off greater heat. Within our solar system both Jupiter and Saturn give off heat.
- 20. THE Z-PINCH PLASMOID A pinch is the compression of an electrically conducting filament or plasma stream by magnetic forces to form a plasmoid. In a z-pinch the current is axial (in the z direction in the coordinate system). The kernel (of a new star) may be born from a plasmoid. Plasmoids attract neighboring matter electromagnetically. Planets probably do not form this way. It is more likely that they are born from Suns.
- 21. THE ELECTRIC SUN Birkeland currents enter from the poles, providing the main current strength. A flow of positive ions (the main current) emerges from the surface of the Sun. A secondary current circuit flows within the Sun, induced by the main current. It is the secondary current that seems to give rise to the magnetic loops that form on the surface of the Sun.
- 22. THE ELECTRIC HELIOSPHERE Positive ions flow from the surface of the Sun in all directions. This stream becomes increasingly negatively charged as it moved towards the heliopause. The heliopause has a temperature of 30,000-50,0000C, for hotter than the surface of the Sun. Ultimately a negatively charged current is attracted back to the Sun. The flow of current within the plane of the ecliptic is positively charged. The Oort Cloud is a theoretical cloud of asteroids/comets that lies beyond the heliosphere. It may form a full sphere, and it probably does not exist.
- 23. THE BIRTH OF A SUN OR PLANET New Suns and planets are born as a consequence of Novas and Supernovas. The electrical charge of the Sun rises to such an extent that the plasma double layer and its surface explode in a very brief Arc mode flash spreading plasma in all directions. The new Sun or planet forms by virtue of the simply electromagnetic fact that two spheres of a smaller size with roughly the same volume as the original sphere can carry more charge per cubic volume. This can happen at any level from Super Giants down to Planets. This is probably how our Moon was formed.
