What is a guitar?The guitar is a stringed musical instrument that is used in blues, country, flamenco, rock music, and many forms of pop. It typically has six strings, but they also exist with four, seven, eight, ten, and twelve strings.
Traditionally, guitars have usually been made of combinations of different types of woods and with strings of animal gut, or more recently, with nylon strings or steel strings. There are many types of guitars. In total, there are 22 different types of guitars. The classic guitarThe classic guitar (Spanish guitar) was invented in Roman times. Nobody knows who invented it. It has 6 strings.
Nowadays, the strings are made of nylon with metal thread. However, animal gut strings are still available.
The classic guitar was developed in the late 19th century. What we call classical guitar is really called modern-classical guitar.
The acoustic guitarTheacoustic guitar only uses a methodtoprojectthesoundproducedbyitsstrings. It has  6 strings.
Theacoustic guitar comes fromtheclassical guitar, butit has steelstrings, so thesoundisbrighter and louder.
The electro-acoustic guitarThe electro-acoustic guitar isanacousticwith pickups: a microphoneortransducers. They are usedbecause pickups are notcapable of picking up vibrationson non-magneticmaterials. It has 6 strings.Thisguitar requires a preamplifierincorporated in the guitar toamplifythesignalbeforeitgetstothemain guitar amplifier.
The electric guitarThe electric guitar converts the vibrations of its strings into electric signals. It has 4 strings.Many people were experimenting with electrical instruments in the 1920s, but, officially, the actual electric guitar was invented in 1931 by George Beauchamp.
