Radio became a popular form of entertainment in the 1920s. KDKA made the first radio broadcast for public consumption on November 2, 1920, reporting on an election. By 1922, there were over 500 radio stations across the country. Programming became more diversified and included music, comedy, religious programming and sports, with music becoming the most popular. Radio helped develop a national culture and identity for the first time. Some criticisms of radio included that it eroded family conversation and exposed children to undesirable content. The invention of radio greatly changed American culture.
