CHRISTIANITY
BACKGROUND
Christianity began as a Second
Temple Judaic group in the
Roman province of Judea in the
first century as Hellenistic
Judaism.
Abrahamic monotheistic religion
-world's largest religion -
Christians believed that Jesus is
the Son of God -greatly
persecuted -1st century AD
-501 years of Christianity
Christianity emerged in Judea in the mid-first
century CE, based first on Jesus' teachings
and later on Paul of Tarsus' writings and
missionary activities. Christianity began as a
small, disorganized religion that guaranteed
personal redemption after death.

CHRISTIAN
PRACTICES
RITUALS
Prayer • To praise God and thanksgiving to God •
Morning and evening, either alone or with others,
and at meals • The important community ritual
celebrations of worship are celebrated inside the
Christian Church • Roman Catholic Christians –
believe in seven sacraments. The Seven
Sacraments are: Baptism, Confirmation, the
Eucharist, Ordination, Marriage, Reconciliation,
and The Anointing of the Sick (The sacraments are
effective signs of grace, instituted by Christ and
entrusted to the Church, through which the Divine
life is given.)
• Two most important sacraments are Baptism and
the Eucharist  Baptism is the ritual prayer action
through which a person becomes a member of the
Christian community, the Church. The heart of the
ritual is a ceremonial washing.  If the newly
baptized is an adult or a child who is old enough to
understand, He immediately joins in the community
ritual prayer action called "the Eucharist"
EFFECTS OF CHRISTIANITY
TO GLOBALIZATION
*BY DIMINISHING THE BARRIERS
BETWEEN DIFFERENT CULTURES,
GLOBALISATION LANDS RELIGION IN
A QUAGMIRE OF CONFLICTS WHICH
REINFORCE SOCIAL IDENTITIES AS
SOME DO NOT ACCEPT THE NEW
REALITIES AND TURN TO RELIGION
TO REDISCOVER THEIR OWN
IDENTITY. RELIGION PROVIDES A
SENSE OF BELONGINGNESS TO A
GROUP IN THE WORLD.
*GLOBALIZATION HAS HAD
A PROFOUND IMPACT ON
CHRISTIANITY. IT HAS A
“TENDENCY TO FOSTER
SECULARIZATION AMONG
PEOPLES AND CULTURES
THAT ARE NOT SECULAR
AND DO NOT WANT TO BE
SECULAR”.
RELIGIOUS
RESPONSES
Globalization promotes a
diverse culture in which
faiths "with overlapping
but distinct ethics and
values" interact. ... As a
result, globalization
emphasizes the fact that,
while faiths share similar
values, none of them is
"correct" and so cannot
be changed.
Globalization brings a
culture of pluralism,
meaning religions
interact with one
another.Essentially, the
world’s leading religious
traditions Hinduism,
Buddhism, Judaaism,
Christianity, and Islam
that teach values such
as human dignity,
equality, freedom,
peace, and solidarity.
INSIGHTS
First century AD - 501 years of ChristianityChristianity emerged in Judea in the middle
of the first century CE, based first on Jesus' teachings and later on Paul of Tarsus'
writings and missionary activities.Abrahamic monotheistic religion - the world's largest
religion - Christians believed that Jesus is the Son of God - greatly persecuted -1st
century AD - 501 years of ChristianityChristianity emerged in Judea in the mid-first
century CE.
Prayer • To praise God and give thanks to God • Morning and evening, either alone or
with others, and at meals • The significant communal ritual celebrations of worship are
celebrated inside the Christian Church • Roman Catholic Christians - believe in seven
sacraments. Christianity began as a small, disorganized religion that promised
individual redemption after death. The seven sacraments are Baptism, Confirmation, the
Eucharist, Ordination, Marriage, Reconciliation, and The Anointing of the Sick (The
sacraments are effective signs of grace, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the
Church, through which the Divine life is given).
The two most significant sacraments are Baptism and the Eucharist. A ceremonial washing
serves as the ritual's focal point. The newly baptized immediately participates in the
communal ritual prayer action known as "the Eucharist" if they are adults or children who are
old enough to understand it. Globalization lowers cultural barriers, which causes religion to
become mired in conflicts that serve to reinforce social identities as some do not embrace
the new truths and resort to religion in order to rediscover who they really are. A sense of
community is fostered by religion. * Globalization has had a significant impact on
Christianity.Globalization encourages a diverse culture in which faiths "with overlapping but
distinct ethics and values" interact. It has a "tendency to foster secularization among peoples
and cultures that are not secular and do not want to be secular." Globalization fosters a
culture of pluralism, meaning religions interact with one another. Essentially, the world's top
five religious traditions are Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, which
impart values like human dignity, equality, freedom, peace, and solidarity. Despite the fact
that all of these faiths share similar values, none of them can be changed.
