Hula Hoop Nutritional Game
United States Bingo,[object Object]
Hula Hoop Nutritional Game Grade Level – 3rd grade and up Number of participants:  divide the class into four groups Materials/equipment needed: 5 hula hoops, Cards with the five different food groups on them. Each hula hoop will contain a different food group.  Description: One member from each group will choose a hula hoop. The person that hula hoops the longest will get to keep that card with the food group listed on it.  The groups will continue to rotate members until the team has all five food groups to make a nutritionally balanced meal.
 United States Bingo  Grade Level – 5th and 6th grade Number of participants – each student in the class will participate 			    independently. Materials/Equipment – Map of the US without the names of the State on them. Bingo cards with letters on them, dots of paper to cover letters,     Cards with names of the States, tape. Description – The teacher will call out a letter, if a student has that letter they can name a State that begins with that letter.  Once a student bingo they will be given a card with the name of a State on it.   They will then walk sideways or backwards to the map and place the State in the right place.

Coach Fletcher Says
Walk Across Alabama,[object Object]
Justin Fletcher Coach Fletcher Says: (A Health Nutrition Activity) Grade Level/Levels: Pre-K- Third Grade Number of Participants Required: Unlimited Materials/Equipment Needed: None Activity:  Coach Fletcher will teach the students about proper nutrition.  He will emphasize eating healthy fruits, vegetables, dairy products, and grains as part of a balanced diet.  After the students have grasped the difference between healthy and unhealthy foods, the class will play “Coach Fletcher Says,” modeled after Simon Says.  When Coach Fletcher calls out a healthy food, the students will perform the exercise he suggests.  When Coach Fletcher calls out an unhealthy food, they will not perform the exercise he suggests.  Any students that choose the wrong food will be out of the game and will sit quietly in their spot. Examples:  “If broccoli is good for you, run in place.” (students would run in place) “If chocolate cake is nutritious, do five jumping jacks.” (students would not move)
Justin Fletcher Walk Across Alabama (A Geography in Motion Activity) Grade Level/Levels: 3rd-5th Grades Number of Participants: One or more classrooms Materials Needed: Map of Alabama, pedometers, classroom chart, Pushpins Activity: Coach Fletcher’s classroom will learn about different cities and counties in the State of Alabama by virtually walking through them.  Each child will be given a pedometer at the start of the class period to record their steps.  At the end of the class period, each student will record his or her steps for the day beside his or her name on the classroom chart.  This will be a month long exercise where we try to make it from Hartselle, Alabama, to the sandy beaches of the Gulf Coast. We will tally our steps on Friday of each week, mark our progress on the map, and discuss interesting facts about the cities and counties we have “traveled” through.   If we reach our goal by the end of the month, we will have a beach themed party to celebrate.

Shopping for Healthy Snacks

Participants Needed:
Any amount of students as long as enough squares are printed and laminated for all students to have one to stand on.
Materials Needed:
Laminated squares of colored paper (red, yellow, and green)
CD player with CD of children’s songs
Large poster of a traffic signal and one of a stop sign
Directions:
There will be laminated squares of paper in the colors red, yellow, and green placed on the floor (in random order) in a square shape around the outside of the students’ desks.
The teacher will display the poster of the traffic signal and explain that red means stop, yellow means go slow, and green means go.
The music will play and the children will walk around the room in a clockwise motion and will step on each consecutive square.
When the music stops she will hold the poster of the stop sign.  The child must stop on the square they are on.

  • 28. If their color is red, they will freeze and stand very still. If the child stops on yellow, they will walk in place slowly. If the child stops on a green square, they will jog in place on the square.

Safe or Unsafe Mallory Fallin Subject: Health Safety Grade Levels: 7th-9th grade Number of Participants: Two teams of 8, and 1 score keeper (17 total) Materials Needed: Pictures of Safe Behavior and Unsafe Behavior (Examples: Safe Behavior: Jogging, Laughing, Bike-Riding, etc. Unsafe Behavior: Smoking, Drinking, etc.),Screen or blank wall and projector, Room with space to do jumping jacks, and jogging. Instructions: Students separate into teams. One player from each team will go first, while the other teams wait behind them in a single file line, for there turn. A picture will be shown to the participants of Safe and Unsafe Behavior, in order for the student to answer whether the picture is a Safe or Unsafe behavior they have to do a jumping jack. Who ever does the jumping jack first will answer the question. In order to earn a point for your team you have to name whether it is a Safe or Unsafe behavior, and ways that it is Safe or Unsafe. For example, the picture show Drinking the participant will say “Unsafe, the behavior is unsafe because it is bad for the health of your liver”. Once the player answers the question correctly they jog to the end of the line and wait for there next turn. The first team to ten points wins. SAFE/ UNSAFE YOU CHOOSE!!!!!
  • 110. How You Gonna’ Get There? Mallory Fallin Subject: Geography Grade Levels: 4th-8th Number of Participants: Any number of students can participate. Materials Needed: Poster board, 4 Bicycles, 4 Jump Ropes, Tennis Shoes, Card Board Box, Construction Paper, Markers, Gym (best location) Instructions: Have the Students pick a state in each direction North, South, East, and West. On the poster board label the States you pick. Place the States in the gym in the correct geographical location ( N, S, E, W). Now the students will take the construction paper and on 6 different pages write out directions like 1. Ride your bike East to get to “State” 2. Jump Rope South to get to “State” 3. Skip North to “State” 4. Jog West to get to “State” 5. Start Over 6. RUN HOME!!! Then the students will glue an instruction to every side of the box.(Creating a life size dice) The students will roll the “dice” to see where they have to travel across the United States. Each student can take a turn until they get sent home! Home is wherever you start from in the gym, students can label it if they want! To play again just have the students pick four new states in each direction. After all there are fifty to choose from!
