The role of Accounting and Finance Professionals is ever evolving. Demands are increasing; regulations are even more stringent; and areas of focus are expanding. All of these make it more challenging for companies to efficiently close their books while ensuring they have balance sheet integrity. The account reconciliation process is an under-appreciated, yet critical, control which helps ensure financial integrity. By leveraging technology, a company can automate its reconciliations and link accounts across different standards to minimize the amount of manual labor required and ultimately the risk of errors. This session is designed to inform finance and accounting leaders of how account reconciliation process optimization can create a foundation for streamlining the overall financial close process and more importantly, ensuring appropriate controls are in place for greater accuracy in the numbers.

EXPERIAN MARKETING SERVICES, Schaumburg, IL 12/2007 to 9/2011
Custom Database Service Delivery
Experian® Marketing Services provides direct marketing services to clients to profitably acquire, retain and
grow their customer relationships. Major product lines include Database Management, Data Integrity, List
Processing, Consumer & Business Data, Email Marketing and Strategy & Analytics.
• Truvue® Platform Migration Project: Truevue Experian’s customer data integration product was
split between two different technologies. Half of the volume was on a mainframe system costing
$4MM a year and a portion of the processing was on a distributed system platform costing $0.8MM.
The mainframe portion required high availability, real-time access to the data. IBM pureScale was
utilized to provide high availability transactions in a DB2 AIX environment. A $0.5MM increase per
year in distributed systems hardware and software will eliminate the need of the $4MM a year
mainframe.
• Mainframe Optimization Project: Initiated a project to lower total hardware and software support
costs to the Experian Marketing Services Businesses. Three mainframes with excess capacity were
consolidated into one minus two generation IBM mainframe. The consolidation of these platforms
into an older used IBM mainframe reduces costs by $1.5MM a year and did not negatively impact
customer service.
• Print & File Handling Project. Led a project to reengineer the printing and inbound and outbound
file handling functions for the division saving in excess of $1.6MM a year.
• Costa Rica Development Office Project: Led a project to move 11% of the Database support staff to
a newly established office in Costa Rica, achieving 11% operating cost reduction and no disruptions
in service.

used to capture campaign setup information. This information was then pushed into various
mainframe legacy clubs and insurance systems.
o The BI project also centralized PMG’s marketing plan into one central database. The
marketing plan is used to drive call center capacity planning and is used in the P&L
budgeting process. The platform tracks the ROI, IRR and NPV of all marketing campaigns.
o The BI project has pay back of less than one year and produces over $2.2 MM per year in
cost out. The value of enhanced information to the business is several times the
documented cost savings.
o Awarded the GEFA Platinum Award. The Platinum Award is the highest award for
individual achievement within GEFA.
